Favorite Superhero Movies

But at the end of the day, it was a comic book movie that delivered big scenes and well done matchups. Certainly better than Thor that really delivered nothing.

This is definitely going to be an agree to disagree kind of situations.

The entire plot of Civil War is bogus. The same people that wanted to Nuke a major US city are the same people saying the Avengers need to follow laws. The villain and his plan has like a 1 in a million chance of happening and requires a lot of leaps of faith on the villains part but somehow everything falls into place. It reduces Iron Man into little more than an idiot. It reduces the American government into a petty, spiteful group of idiots. It makes Captain America a good guy for monopolizing super powers because monopolies and vast inequalities are American.

Thor is classic stuff. Nothing too risky but Id also argue it stuck the landing of the hardest stuff in the Marvel universe. Every part was well cast and the dichotomy of gods and men really came across as important.

I get the other three, but for about 10 years, Spider-Man 2 was had the highest score on Rotten Tomatoes for a superhero movie. It laid the ground for the modern superhero epic.

Its weird but I think I outgrew the Spider-man movies. They definitely seem more geared for kids and teens then a lot of the other movies. I still enjoy Spider-man 1 and 2 but i think its getting harder and harder to make a 'top' superhero list.

Shit and I'd also like to throw Spawn (1997) in there. That shit was awesome.

I love Spawn more than the next guy, but it's laughably bad as a film. One of those "accidental comedy" type of movies.

They definitely (especially 1) have not aged well, but I will say I have a personal connection to them. I was born in 1997 and loved Spider-Man like any normal kid. My dad said I was too young to see Spider-Man when it came out in 2002, but I ended up seeing it with him on DVD when I was 6 in 2003. I fucking loved it. Then 2004 roles around, and I went to see Spider-Man 2 in theaters with my dad, the first movie I ever remember seeing in theaters. I was captivated, and at that point, deemed it the best movie ever. Now, others have passed it since, but it's still one of 9 movies (Spider-Man 2) that I've given 5/5 stars.

Also, say what you want about the '02 Spider-Man, but THIS is how you do a fight sequence between a good guy and an ultimate baddie. Still one of, if not my favorite fight scene in a superhero movie ever

It may be time to reinvent the genre again. Batman Begins and TDK moved the genre away from dopey and into gritty. Maybe it needs to shift again. As it is, TDK is the undisputed best nit only because it was a good movie but because it was influential as all hell in the genre.

Critics were ambivalent about Watchmen. To me, parts of it were great (notably JEH's performance), but other parts were overlong and boring. Just my 2 cents.

My main point is that one shouldn't laugh at Spider-Man 3 (63%) or Daredevil (44%) when one has Watchmen (65%) and Hancock (41%) on their list.

I loved Maguire. In fact, until I see more Tom Holland, he's still my favorite Spider-Man (not that Garfield was bad). Dunst was awful in those movies. Probably the most annoying love interest in a superhero film, if not film, period. Surprisingly, she's had a bit of a resurgence as an actress, with an acclaimed performance on Fargo S2 that I haven't seen.

I may have included a boarder line movie at #19, but you completely omitted GotG and Superman.

Including Batman is key, IMHO, because it was the first cb movie since the Superman movies. And Keaton and Nicholson did great jobs in a genre that was not taken seriously before they lent their names to it. Heck, if someone wanted to include Batman the Movie, I would understand. It was a groundbreaker for its time. Spider-Man II is completely forgetable. But if you were 5 when it came out, I guess I understand your attachment to it (seriously). If I were to watch Superman with the same eyes I watch movies with today, I would not like it. The whole time travel thing alone would imediately DQ it for me (the main reason I don't include Dr Strange in this list). But it was THE comic book movie for my entire childhood.

I am looking at all inclusive. I enjoyed Batman and Superman when I watched them. And they were important for the genre.

I don't have IM so high on my list because it was an Oscar winner. I liked it, but it opened the door to the MCU, which, as a whole, has been fucking fantastic.

To each their own, but honestly IMO that entire cast was pretty much a joke. Only actors that I liked in their roles were Willem Defoe & JK Simmons.

I am not a fan of V at all, but I acknowledge that a lot of people like it. Outside of that, very solid top 5.

V is easily in my top 5.

At least at initial glance.

But then again, after I include animated movies it might not be. But then again, I could make a strong case that the top 5 are ALL animated.

I think Logan was decent, though there might be some immediacy bias involved. I saw Doctor Strange right after it and ranked it higher. Logan is just really dark and really gosh darn progressive. Its just an action movie because there isnt much Super going on.
