This is what happens when you binge on Dexedrine. I made a top 100 list of all movies, all time. As many of you know, I rate all movies I see on a scale from 0-5 with half stars after I watch them. For this list, I started at movies I ranked 5/5; ordered them, then 4.5/5; ordered them, and so on. I got down to some movies in the 3.5/5 territory to complete the list. I respect every person's right to like what they like but I am baffled by anyone that would give Training Day or Gran Torino a perfect score. Both decent movies but they are both pretty flawed films.

For me the only movies I would even consider 5/5 movies that you listed would be.

Godfather II
Pulp Fiction
Shawshank Redemption

Kudos to you for creating the list though.

I appreciate the feedback. What didn't you like about TD and GT?

Gran Torino was a very good movie, but no way in hell could I give it a perfect score, if for nothing else than the acting.

Also, I LOVED Dark Knight, but best movie ever???

And the entire concept of rating a movie imediately after watching it and locking it in is a flawed rating system. A movie cannot gain a perfect score after a single viewing. Part of it being "perfect" is standing up to multiple viewings and how it stands up to the test of time.

I disagree, but to each their own. A movie can and should be given a rating immediately. If you want to change it after watching it a second time, that's your prerogative, but the whole "test of time" thing is bullshit to me. If you watch every movie a thousand times, you'll end up giving them all a 0/5

Obviously, there's some movies I've forgotten. Even Dexedrine can't do everything. For example, "A Man For All Seasons" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" were both movies I gave 4/5 stars, but I forgot to put them on my list, as there are 3.5/5 star movies present.

Every list is always going to be subjective of course, but when a movie like 10 Cloverfield Lane is on your list (fun movie for what it was - but forgettable 15 minutes after you saw it) and oh say, 'One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest' or 'Midnight Express,' isn't on the list, then there's a problem with the list.

I expect there's just going to be a shit ton of great movies you just haven't seen yet, if you rank any Harry Potter movie in a 100 best movies of all time list.

Having said that, you've got a BUNCH of movies on your list I'd agree with too.

Well yeah, I still haven't seen a ton of classics. Considering your two examples, I saw half of OFOTCN and got bored with it, and haven't seen Midnight Express (is that Hitchcock?)

But the third and fourth HP's were great movies, IMO. I'm not saying all of them deserve to be on there, but probably the 5th and 1st could have made it too, to be honest. I don't see a problem with that.

I could see people getting angry over Gangster Squad or Triple 9, both movies with "Rotten" ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, but that's where personal taste comes in. I really enjoyed both movies.

And I 'enjoy' movies I'd never put on a 100 best list. I 'enjoyed' the hell out of 10 Cloverfield. I loved that a low budget movie could pull that off (until the ending that is). But 100 best list material? Meh.

If I'm putting a movie on a 100 best list, I need to be walking out of the theater lost in what I just experienced, or blown away.

You should watch Cuckoo and finish it.

The ending is the payoff.

And FTR, I don't automatically think old = good. I have to force myself to watch really old B+W films, just my prejudice. In some (African Queen), I think, wow, yeah that was really good. Others, I think, 'what was all the fuss about?'

And Harry Potter movies (after the 1st two shlock-fests) are good solid big-budget movies. But there's nothing in there (again, subjective) that makes you go... wow! Same with Hunger Games. Well shot, well edited, all the bells and whistles, and even some good acting, but... for me at least, no 'wow!'

100 best has gotta' have wow!

There are exceptions to every rule, of course.

For example, Passions of the Christ is AT WORST a 9 on my 10-point scale, but I have only seen it once and I have no desire to ever see it again. It is just too painful to watch more than once. But it is quite possibly the most powerful film I have ever seen (and this is coming from an agnostic/atheist person).

First glance, there is not enough Hitchcock on that list, where is The Godfather? The Godfather was so great, real life mafiaso tried to emulate the characters, they even changed some of their actions because of that movie.
