Just re-read Then We Came to the End. Just as funny and relevant as when I read it almost 20 years ago.

One of the only novels I've ever read with 2nd-Person narration that actually works.

@foster4prez so I got about halfway through Devolution today. Just finished the scene where
the Bigfoot show up right outside their little house for the first time, right after the scene where they heard the mountain lion getting destroyed.
shit is nuts
that was a good read. I like his stuff

Just finished this book last night and it was fuckin fantastic. If you’ve watched or read Band of Brothers then this is one you’ll definitely enjoy. It’s not so much a war memoir but more of a side by side autobiography of their entire lives. Highly recommend.

never was good at purposeful delay...
  • read The Wager, no beach... enjoyed it lots but, I'm sorry... can't help but compare anything re that era (real or imagined) to Patrick O'Brian.
  • read Devolution... savored it in small bites... taste lingers.
  • reading The WindUp Girl... if you've already been there, I'm sure you're just a mite jealous hearing this is my first immersion in this brutal magnificence.
  • will be reading Rainbow's End... am a big fan of Vinge's earlier stuff; this one copped a HUGO so it should be ok.

trying to knock out some classics this year...picked up Neuromancer by William Gibson last night.

I have a couple other fantasy classics I bought from a book sale...I might get around to them

hated it... absolutely fucking hated it... was a painfully shitty read... 2007 Hugo? damn, what were they thinking?... ugh

picked up the 3BodyProblem and two sequels recently...
despite NOT watching Netflix's rendition, reading the novel is like fulltime Deja Vu... or
is eerily similar to Hamilton's SALVATION trilogy.
halfway through first book, enjoying it in small bites at bedtime.

The Three Body Problem
The Dark Forest
Death's End

2/3rds through Death's End... still enjoying in small bites...
one thing, though, gotta thank the author Cixin Liu for effectively shattering one of my lifelong dreams - alien contact...
he's not saying it can't happen... he's saying you best hope it doesn't happen to you because it's highly UNLIKELY to be amicable.

picked up a copy of Octavia Butler's 1993 Parable of the Sower... seems these times are spawning/reviving interest in dystopia.

Parable of the Sower was painful to read... pretty much the standard near-future societal breakdown story... L.A. burns, girl loses everything, treks north, times don't get better, ends on a question.
Glad the end came when it did.

Am beginning 2025 with Greg Egan's 1997 Diaspora.
Anybody read it?

I started The Rage of Dragons by Evan Winter last night. I have heard great things about the series and it seems the third book of the trilogy comes out this year sometime.

I am at least reading that until I get my copy of Wind and Truth from the library.
