The postseason may or may not result in a 2nd title but it's never too soon to discuss upgrades.....going to focus on adding a 3rd guy.
Dennis Schroder is disgruntled with his role AND he wants to be over-paid (allegedly wants 20-plus million) so here are some players I think they should go after
-Mike Conley.....he is a FA and has made 174 million in his career and coming off a contract that paid him 32.5 million this season. He may be interested in taking a lot less to play for a title with James and AD, providing them with a 3rd player to help form a Big 3. Not to mention, he is still playing at a high level at 34 and can hit the 3 (41%) and pass the ball (6apg).....he is an upgrade over Schroder IMO.
-Kyle Lowry is an UFA and was a player the Lakers were interested in at the trade deadline. He had a productive season for the Raps: 17ppg (over his career average of 14.9), 7.3apg, and 5.4rpg. He made 44% of his FGA's, including 40% from downtown. I think he'd fit seamlessly with James and AD and give them another proven playoff performer.
-DeMar DeRozan is an UFA and not likely to return with all the young guards SA has stockpiled. DeRozan is from the Los Angeles area and averaged a career high 6.9apg with the Spurs in addition to 22ppg and 4.2apg. DeRozan is listed at a SG but with James running the offense, DeRozan would make a lot of sense. He also made 50% of his FGA's, but only 26% of his treys. He'd give them a nice 3rd option and at 32 he is younger than Conley and Lowry.
-Reggie Jackson is the youngest player at just 30 and had an efficient season for the Clippers playing just 23mpg. He averaged 11ppg and 3apg while making 45% of his FGA's (2nd best of his career) including a career-high 43% of his treys. He would get a lot of open looks with James and AD and provide a deep threat. Having made nearly 100 million he might be interested in a 2 year deal for less than he could make elsewhere (like he took with the Clipps) for the chance to win a ring.
I think Conley or DeRozan would be the best fit and if I had to decide, I'd opt for Conley if he were willing.
