I may have said that wrong. I'm not saying he doesn't care about the position, but never really saw him go heavy on it. he got to a point where they were luxury picks when drafted... Even so, he always seemed to end up with a stable of "meh" that fit the Patriots well... He invests in the position, but don't ever recall him ever really going for a stud RB (Again, possible exception being Dillon via FA)
Well going back to his start....

Hoard, Mack, Byner in Cleveland. A. Williams for multiple years, then Dillon, then a first round pick in Maroney who was plagued by injuries, than he started dabbling in these odd ball comiteees, but always invested substantial draft/free agent capital, Woodhead, Fred Taylor.. Ridley and Vareen were 3rd round picks, the same year I believe, or back to back 3 and 4..either way..then Blount falls into his lap...twice, and he's still constantly getting others, Dion Lewis, James White, Steven Jackson, Burkhead...then drafts Michel with a #1, Harris with a #3, and this year, a run at a new Blount in the 4th.

The idea of a singular "stud RB", may have lost value, but the RB position, and it's affect on winning or losing games, has not. And when BB had a good one, he rode him, when he didn't, he realized the deficiency, and was constantly experimenting to find way to make that position productive.

I'll put my stance on guys like Gaskins, and teams that refuse to invest in the position, like this...

2+ minutes to go, you've got a one score lead and the ball. Can you turn around and hand the ball off 3 times, and reasonably expect to get a first down or two? Does THAT guy, give you the confidence that you have a better than average shot at getting that first down and winning the game outright rather than punting and hoping the other team doesn't have Aaron Rodgers or "insert stud QB here"
If not, then you should be investing SOMETHING in the position

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said the addition of Will Fuller and Jaylen Waddle will be a boon for the team's rushing offense.

It checks out. Adding two burners to the Miami offense should, theoretically, force defenses to back off the line of scrimmage and potentially open up holes for Myles Gaskin and the rest of the Dolphins backs

Well sure...but first you have to demonstrate that not only will you throw to them, but that you can complete those passes, and that your line gives you the time. Oakland did that, didn't help thier run game. Denver did that, didn't help their run game. Luckily they both have competent RB's that could still get the job done. Safeties, by and large aren't stupid. If you never throw to the guy, or you can never throw it where it can be completed, they're not gonna be nearly as worried about being beat over the top.

Talk about an assbackwards approach to offense. Run the ball for 5 yards 10-15 times a game, Fuller and Waddle will be running free back there, and Gesiki can be George Kittle all over place

I cant stress the bolded part enough. The intention isnt enough. Tua must take a step for the Dolphins to take a step.

he definitely needs to be better. No doubt but....

I said this on the main board. Tua really i think gets an unfair assessment last year.

injured
Covid/training camps etc

Then they make a very public switch, placing more pressure on him...then yank him in and out of games replacing him with fitz everytime he struggles, and tbh called some crappy games for him.

now im a proponent of ,this is the big leagues, you perform or sit. But with a young potential franchise qb, its a bit different.

was just odd. He was a humble , professional through it all.i really hope he succeeds.

Right?? If you've got Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Mahommes..etc...they can make those plays work, they don't need to suck the LB's and safeties in to make plays downfield, the fit it into those tight windows regardless, or, they themselves suck the safeties into a bad position. Teams that don't have a QB who can make those kinds of plays, MUST have a strong ground game to help them out. Tau isn't that guy yet, Matt Ryan isn't that guy- Ryan's greatest season , 2016- his only all pro, only MVP, only offensive POY came, with Freeman and Coleman rushing for 1600 and 19 scores- , Kyler Murray isn't quite there yet either..but sure, let's get those passing game weapons to open up the run game...smdh

Side note, i hope im wrong. But unless the steelers with canada at OC make some major changes schematically. Najee is likely gonna have 15-20 carries for 45-60 yards a game

You do bring up a great point, but the Steelers are in better shape than other situations these rookies are landing in.
(I do my own offensive ranking combining a few stat categories.)
PIT ranked 12th which isn't bad.
But guys like Etienne, Javonte, Chase and Carter all landed on teams that were in the bottom 6 in terms of offensive production.
That's expecting a lot for these rookies to not only expect tons of touches, but to make a gigantic improvement on their NFL teams.

The offense will be fine. It was last year too. Hes in good shape because hes the unquestioned bell cow. But they couldnt run period. the steelers offense was fairly highly ranked despite at best a bottom 5 run game. I dont knw the ranks off the top of my head tbh.

Perhaps najee gets major boosts from the td side and receptions. Buy the run lanes just wont be there. We opted to throw 50 times a game last year

Still think that's a good situation for a rookie to be in. An offense that moves the ball (period) is more likely to have some fruitful redzone opportunities compared to a team that has trouble not going 3-and-out, and struggles to march the offense down field.

In gonna circle back to this later with some cringeworthy stats, for fun.

Yeah Steelers were a bad run blocking team last year, but the Steelers are not the kind of team to let that stand. They'll fix that OL and I think lots of changes being made to it.

But, nothing theyve done thus far suggests that...

You go 11-0, and then go to absolute shit and get bounced right away, I can't imagine Tomlin is gonna just allow status quo, he'll be on that OC to change some stuff up. Maybe they didn't get that many personal changes, but scheme wise, perhaps a few tweaks can cover up some things. Thankfully they've got a QB who can handle tweaks without falling apart
