IMO he is pulling a Maurice Clarett. One pretty good season and he wants a team to push in all the chips on him.

Only he's avg over 1000yds/season with a bunch of nobodies throwing him the ball the last few years, Aiyuk can play and he's available at a time WRs are getting paid, can't blame him imo

Nailed it. WRs are getting huge money right now. On the Niners he can't maximize his value. Plenty of reasons to not love being there even if they are a good team.

It makes sense for a QB to put the team first, because it benefits the QB in the long run, too. Look at Brady. He was basically never the highest-paid QB and he's making huge bank on side gigs because of all the rings. But that's the only position in the NFL that's really measured by rings. Rings are nice, of course; winning feels really good; but the parade ends, the headlines fade, while the money can be there for your family for decades.

Oops. Posted in the wrong thread.

And i'll double down on my view of Aiyuk. Its a good argument that WR are getting paid, and there may be nothing out of the ordinary that he wants to cash in. Look Aiyuk is gonna get a pay raise based on his contract.

But how many vets want to be on a championship team? He is on one. The 49ers do not need Aiyuk to win - think Shanny proved that he could rotate just about anyone in there.

Just doesnt seem like a "team" guy. Call me a prude.
We see it often enough, guys who cashed in early in their career and now want to be on a team with a legit shot of a title. (ODB in recent memory.)

And "money for decades" is maybe how us lowly 5-figure breadwinners envision NFL mega deals. How many have no money after football? They are only taking care of themselves or trusting the wrong people with investments.

True, but also, 1k yards ain't what it used to be either though is it? 17 games vs 16, that along diminishes it doesn't it? Used to be you had to average 63 yards a game to hit 1k. Now it's 59. Combine that with the ridiculous rule changes skewed heavily to advance the passing game, 1k just doesn't exactly have the same 'oomph' that it used to.

And from a certain POV, him, Deebo, Kittle, all those RB's, having success with a bunch of random jack wangs at QB, is only more proof that it's the Shanny system, combined with players that execute that system efficiently, that creates the offensive production, not any one of the pieces being great. CMAC is obviously a late coming exception, as no one denied him being great before he ever got there.

Let's take a close look at Aiyuk.

Through his four-year rookie deal he earned $12.5 million, of which some amount goes to his agent, manager and attorneys. Let's say 10%, which takes him down to $11.2 million.

Taxes - playing for a California team - would consume a little more than half of that, leaving him about $5.5 million.

If the 49ers exercise his option without extending him, that gives him another $14 million for 2024, of which he'll get maybe $12.5 after paying his agent, manager and attorneys, and $6 million after taxes.

That would put him at $11.5 million for his career until now, and no contract going forward. If he gets hurt, that's it, and he has little expertise to offer in any other field. If he were to live on say a 5% return per year, that would be about $500K a year. Which is far from obscenely rich - more like upper middle class. Probably not enough to sustain whatever lifestyle he's set up for himself.

Not that I'm weeping for these top NFL players, but it's not all mansions and yachts forever until they've gotten about ten years in, with the really big money coming in those last ones.

For reference, bench WR for the 49ers Chris Conley will have earned $15.6 million over a ten-year career, after this year's contract. He probably took home about $8 million over that time. This will probably be his last contract and the end of his ability to earn at this level.

Seems like a great reason for players to sign with the Cowboys, Texans, Dolphins, Jags, Raiders, Bucs, Titans. Also a great reason to move the Niners, the Chargers, and Rams to Wyoming or Washington or S. Dakota or maybe even Alaska. F. Cali and their taxes! You know they'd sell out no matter where they are

As little as absolutely needed. Over the years, maybe a combined total of 3-4 weeks in or around LA, and a week in S.D. area.

Hard pass for me, but better than NYC/New Jersey, so I'll give em that :)

My sister lives in L.A.
She complains about the cost of living, the homeless, and the bacteria that flows into the ocean making the beach experience terrible (often). Plus they cant get good Chicago pizza or hotdogs.

12 months of yardwork and bugs are enough to keep me away from the sunbelt. Plus i love winter.

heading to San Diego next week for a little get away. If I had unlimited funds we might live their in spite of the costs. Thinking about moving to the Florida panhandle. Will spend three winter months there starting January. My wife is a southern girl and has trouble with the cold and snow of Colorado.

Jersey shore is the best. However, even more expensive than California these days.

I'm fine with Texas now. Once you survive that 3 months of baking and the occasional tornado, things are alright. ;)

S.D. itself was nice, not at all a bad place, imho. it was the costs, especially all the fees added to your bills that other states just don't have. I don't wanna get political in this forum, but it's just the reality of the situation.

I need the snow here in CO... it's how I mark the passage of time. Gotta have those changing seasons :)

One of the things i love about my wife. We both like cold weather. We went skiing for our honeymoon. We spend more time outside when its below 50°. Nothing like sipping a coffee on a cool brisk morning outside.

I know we're in the minority on this.

The Denver Posts’ Troy Renck believes Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine could be battling for a final roster spot in the Broncos’ backfield.

I tell you what, if she wants heat, we got plenty of that - triple digits just about all month - yet she may survive it, like it - not so much. But a native(?) Colorado guy may have a very hard time - think you'll find yourself in reverse hibernation (summers inside, fall/winter out).
I'll give parts of California and Oregon their props on weather - but there is absolutely nothing else about it that moves my needle - I'll take hot summers gladly. ... that is, as long as the AC works !!!
My wife's cousins all live in eastern Oregon - - her fav generally calls when we are in the midst of a heat-wave - - I just tell her it's 76 where I'm at. ....

At my old job, a guy and his wife transferred from California where he was born and raised to the Chicagoland area.

Thought for sure he'd hate winters. He was so suprised that a lot of park districts make ice rinks and sledding hills and ice-fishing... he absolutely LOVED it. He and his wife.

Was rather shocked.

Forgot to add his wife also liked the idea of a brand new winter wardrobe to shop for.

Actually, pretty much every vacation we've taken has been the the northern central or northwest. Took a camping trip once from the Oregon coast all the way to southern Cal - it's pretty for sure - - so I'll add that the landscape is really, really nice - mountains, flowing rivers and streams - we got nothing to compare to that - but makes for a great spring/summer vacation. ...
