Mets To Sign Adrian Gonzalez

It's a low risk gamble but I think this signifies Bruce in right, Conforto in center which is not ideal.
Not sure which parts of this aren't ideal but I've seen Bruce try to play 1B. Um ... he's no GG in the outfield but he does have a strong arm and the ability to go to his right.

Well the Mets have Juan Lagares who is a gold glove in center field. If Bruce is in RF, Conforto plays out of position in center where he's meh. So basically I'd rather have a sub par first baseman than a sub par centerfielder.

Bruce is very sub-par at 1B and he will make the infielders look bad. An average 1B should field everything but a good 1B will let his infielders make a lot of plays. Bruce is better off in RF. But I agree, a mediocre CF will cost as many runs, so you gotta ask if the bat is worth it. I admit I have no idea how good Gonzalez is at 1B. He's not a great bat anymore, though.

AGon USED to be GG-level D at 1B. No idea if his glove has deteriorated as much as his bat and attitude have, though.

Of all the rumored guys to the Mets he is the one I wanted the least. Cheap enough deal so I don't completely hate it. I'll like it even more if we sign a pitcher to go along with him (seeing as how we went the discount route).

He's a pretty big upgrade over Flores and they're only paying him $17M over 2 years.

Yeah the more I look at it it's a good move. I would have liked Nunez to add some speed to this lineup but the heart of the order will be really good. 2-5 of Conforto, Cespedes, Bruce and Frazier is solid.

Frazier's BA issues can be frustrating, but he still gets on base at a respectable clip (career .321, was .344 last year) to go along with potential 30+ HR power and good defense. Of course, there is the matter of Frazier having to sustain a 14.4% walk rate with batting averages that low and his career high prior to 2017 was 9.6%. But he did swing a lot less at outside pitches and he actually made more contact on outside pitches, plus he brought his swinging strike percentage down as well. That improvement could be real.

I'm hoping he's just become a smarter hitter and the OBP continues to improve. Now let's sign Lynn and call it in off-season.

I think you get a league-average experienced 3B for nex

Watched Frazier when he came up and how he adapted to the league after that 2nd year. He seems like a guy who's willing to upgrade his game, depending naturally on if he's gone as far as he can go. I don't think Frazier is the guy you will be unhappy with over a 162. He stays healthy and isn't terrible at the game.

Utley resigns with the Dodgers on a 2-year deal. I wouldn't have minded him as insurance for Pedroia.

He must be the de-facto manager at this point, is he producing enough for a 2 year deal at this stage?

He's had a 96 wRC+ over the last two seasons. The league average at 2B last year was 94. It was a bit below the league average in 2016 (101), but that was an unusually strong year for 2nd basemen offensively. 94 seems to be the usual watermark for 2nd basemen. He's no longer a GG caliber defender, but he seems to be average defensively. He's a fine starting 2nd baseman and a good bench guy IMO. $2M is pretty reasonable for his production IMO.

Damn, had no idea he was still producing, always liked Utleys' style of play

Especially that time he angered Mets fan for about a month

Vargas to the Mets, 2 years $16 million. Solid move, insurance arm in case our rotation doesn't pan out.

Real solid....Especially considering he is better than jamie Garcia at $10 mill for one

Mets problem has been their starting team is solid, but depth sucks, and every time a big injury or 3 happens, the season goes in the shitter, this is a solid depth move for sure

2 things, I think the Mets are looking at him more as an innings eater, a guy tgthwill rest the bullpen and get starts for them. The other, last year was his first full year back after TJ surgery, could explain the drop-off. Regardless, doesn't break the bank, good depth.
