I never said the Mariners have no shot against the Indians. I said they have a slim shot of going very far because they’d likely have to face three of the top four teams in the playoffs.

I included the Indians because they’re one of the top teams. Run diff of +82, which ranks 4th in the AL and 5th in MLB. Compare that to the Mariners run diff of -2. They’ve scored the 4th most runs in MLB and their starting pitchers’ ERA ranks 3rd. The bullpen is a wreck, but there’s time to sort that out.

Despite the outcome of those seven games, the Mariners would not be favored in a series against the Indians.

I'm pretty convinced that when Cano comes back that the M's are a better team then the A's. The key is weathering the remaining 23 games he's out. If they are still ahead of the A's when he comes back I like the M's chances.

Wouldn't it be fair to say that for the M's, "there's time to sort that out" in regards to their run diff as well? Will they do it? Who knows but if they do, the main reason the tribe would be favored is the fact that they'd have HFA over the M's...

How do you know? If the tribe can't figure out their bullpen while the M's begin to have a much better run diff, it's not a given... HFA would be the main reason... Not saying it will happen but I find it comical how you can feel so sure of yourself...

Honestly who cares who would be favored between the Tribe and Mariners? There is a zero percent chance they face in the playoffs. The Tribe will get swept by whoever they end up with in the first round so it's kind of irrelevent.

I am not gonna pretend like the Mariners are a lot better then the Indians or even better at all. You have however quoted the Mariners weak 1st half schedule as the a reason or main reason(I wont assume either way) for their success. I'll go ahead and leave you this stat

Indians record against Detroit, KC, Chicago White Sox: 25-7

Indians record against everyone else: 27-37

The Indians bullpen is a major issue. It's been among the worst in the majors, and blew a shit load of games - which is just fucking crazy because they had an historically great bullpen last season and losing Shaw is the only major change. However, they've got one of the top rotations in the game and a potent offense.

There's absolutely no question that the Indians are benefiting from being in the AL Central. In addition to the shit bullpen, their offense has cost them winnable games as well. It's been pretty streaky. They've scored the 4th most runs in MLB, but their rank by month has been all over the place.

April - 25th
May - 1st
June - 18th
July MTD - 1st

Thankfully, they're in the shit pile central and can coast to the playoffs as they try to sort these issues out.

You brought up the fucking Indians. So yes we were talking about legit WS contenders like the Stros, Yankees and Red Sox and the M's can't compete against them in the playoffs. The Tribe is a toss up and probably should be favored but wouldn't shock me if they defeated the Tribe. So yes, the M's need to make moves to try and compete against the top 3 teams in the AL.
