phillies, you have to admit this isn't a bad forum. i still like espn circa 2008 better, but this is a hell of a lot better than reddit or mlb "200 replies in 5 minutes" forums

I am not from ESPN baseball but I did have an account over there in the football section. I am a huge Phillies guy and have been since 1965. So, I'll be around.

BTW. Hammer Down is the owner here and his site rocks and he is a damn good Admin. Mess with him at your own peril. Talk sports in a civilized fashion and I know you guys will love this site. I am a mod over on the Rams pages as well. Great bunch here and I aint going anywhere else.

Number one. Actually people ask me that all the time. What got me hooked was Callison's walk-off, three-run shot off of Dick Radatz in the 9th of the 1964 All-Star game. Both were great players and gave the Phillies a nice mid-order, one-two punch. Callison was a leftie and Allen a rightie and they wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers. Callison didn't have the staying power of say a Mantle but then again who did. I still haven't decided after all these years. I am still undecided because I liked them both and the rest as they say is history.

yeah, it's an age old question. looking at their stats, i would say allen but of course callison was a far better defensive right fielder than allen was at third or first. how did you come to be a lakers, rams, and phils fan?

I agree on your assessment of both players. It certainly was a conundrum then and still is for me today.

I was born and raised in PA. I got to see the Phillies and Flyers play as a boy, both the parent clubs and the Hershey farm clubs. I'd have a Flyer team logo on my posting slate but there is only three places here on the SportsHoopla.

I saw the Rams play once against the Eagles in 1959 and I fell in love with those horns the minute I saw them. I couldn't wait for the annual Pro magazine to come out so I could read up on the Rams.

The Lakers I just liked from the beginning when they were still in Minnesota. I used to follow them through some local rags that I could get when I went to the local news stand.

So, it was sort of a hodgepodge of interests obtained in a random fashion. I have been following all four teams ever since. How did you get to be a Phillies, 76ers, and Eagles fan?

i was born and raised in newark, delaware, about a 45 minute drive to south philly. everyone up here in north DE roots for philadelphia-based teams, so i just followed suit. i'm in and out of philly all the time, so even though i'm not a true "philly boy" i do feel apart of the city
