I guess what do you mean by picks? Are you saying the Broncos trade picks to get him? If so then it is a huge NOOO from me. The team is already going to struggle enough to build around him with he and Miller taking up so much of the cap space. You add in then trading away valuable draft picks and NFL purgatory is in our future.

You'd think Wash might put some tag on him. I doubt they go just leave.

They would be taking a huge risk by tagging him again. It would cost them $34.5 million just for one season. I doubt they want to pay that to him if say no team bites and wants to trade a 1st round pick AND pay him huge money. I think they are stuck in a difficult place where they are either going to have to pay him huge money to try and heal the realationship on a long-term deal or just let him walk and be happy to get the 3rd round comp.

I'm not real surprised either George.

Agents I have had contact with have told me on several occasions that people do not like working with Elway...

And that's why firing VJ (which most Broncos fans seems to desperately want) may not be the answer after all.

(PS - Paul, I personally would never use Gruden as an example of a good coach. ;) )

I know it was the first name I thought of. I was thinking big name HC wouldn't want this job.. :)

VJ thing is a tough one. He's in a no win situation and no OL QB. If they do fire him who is the guy that could do anything.

Kubiak is with Elway at the cotton bowl tonight
Now if they can get Mike Shanahan as a consultant I fee better bout drafting a QB high

Chris, ive often wondered why you and others are so high on Shanny’s assessment of QBs. Who did he draft to earn that? Cousins? Yes. Griese? Ok, not great. Cutler? I don’t think so. RGIII. No. Otherwise I can think of a number of less than exciting picks.

It's not a about who he drafted but who he did not draft
Cousins and he said he wanted Wilson who went earlier
Cousins and Wilson better than Brock

Skipped over Lienart and Young to draft Cutler
The best of that year

Also Kubiak wanted no part of Lynch
Cutler in 2008 had a super year under
mike.

I think there is an art to the draft and
Say what you will he drafted two franchise QBs

We have the defense to support a rookie if the rookie is a leader

It's easy to say who you "would have drafted"

Wait,

Skipped over Vince Young and Leinart for Jay Cutler?

Both of those guys went ahead of Cutler.

Jay Cutler and super years didn't exist. He has always been a turnover machine. Sure he had some 20 plus touchdown seasons, but he has always had an issue forcing passes. 20-25 tds and 16-20 INT's a year isn't what I would call "SUPER" but that is just me.

In 2008 Cutler threw 18 INTs and more importantly late in the season, late in games.

and lastly....

How do you get credit for players who turns out that you didn't draft???

Didn't someone on our board really want Leinart?

I thought that was Shanahan from the pre draft rumors.

When it comes to draft results, I’m always reminded of the phrase:
“Success has many mothers; failure is an orphan”
