And managed to end up with half of Eli's yardage. He's closer to Tebow numbers.

I get it, they didn't throw well. Defenses were slower, smaller and Plunkett had plenty of chances to get in the hall if he was worth the hall.
again. you are comparing a guy who played half his career in the 70's under pre 1978 rules to a guy that couldnt complete 60% of his passes in an era where QB's are protected an DB's cant play defense, where below 60% is considered tim tebow like.

They are.
And Eli is doing even more than nearly every other.
Keep pretending that away...

he is?

his rating is horrible as is his comp% in an era where those are designed to be padded.

It’s not the two RINGS that get him in. It’s the two SB MVP TROPHIES that get him in. (Along with his career starts streak IMO).

As a side note it’s hilarious watching @DirtDirtDirt argue that 1) Eli is great bc he has 2 SB MVP trophies and 2) that the giants D didn’t help Eli while saying Brady is 1) overrated bc he has 4 SB MVP TROPHIES and 2) the pats D carried Brady to 5 SB wins.

In before fuckstick says I’m turning this into a pats thread. I’m not. I’m merely pointing out his hypocrisy.

Yes let's pretend the game has never changed and qbs aren't putting up way better numbers these days.

At this point, it would be helpful to note that Eli ranks 17th for career yards per game. Kinda puts that whole "he throws for a lot of yards and that's why he should be in the hall of fame," thing into perspective. Marino is the only guy ahead of him that wasn't a contemporary of Eli.

He also ranks 63rd in TD percentage. Just sayin'.

Explain the game of football without using yards/distance and scoring/points. Go...

See how dumb you are?

The team that scores more wins. Even if they get less yards. Ta da!

Helps explain why Eli has won barely half the games he's started and missed the playoffs more than made them. He isn't very efficient.

What this entire debate comes down to is “what is the criteria you use to determine who gets into the hall of fame?”

Some argue it’s career stats. Some argue it’s “being the considered the best at your position during your era”. Others argue “it’s doing something that is considered ‘great’ while still have AT LEAST a decent career”. Some may think it’s something else but these appear to be the 3 main ones.

I think the criteria is ANY of those 3. Eli has had AT A MINIMUM a decent career as a QB. He also is in rare company who has won 2 SB MVP Trophies. Lastly, he holds the record for most consecutive career starts by an NFL QB. IMO, when you consider that COLLECTIVE body of work... he’s in.

I think the other HOF QB who meets a similar criteria is Joe Namath. Decent career but it was that win in SB 3 that established the AFL as a legit league is what propelled him to the HALL. Eli has similar “signature” type achievements.

He ranks 12th all time in Wins

But we have established wins aren't important

apply this same logic to tom brady or joe montana. it would be cute.

"well, he didnt make the playoffs more than he did. he never led the league in anything. he threw a ton of picks, didnt compete 60% of his passes, and was barely over .500. but in the playoffs with great defenses (1.e 15 PPG, metrics displayed) he was really good!"

Exactly. It's a meaningless stat. Someone oughta tell that eagles fella yards don't mean much in a pass happy era.

Meaningless:

SB wins
SB MVPs
Yards
TDs
Wins

Meaningful:

Rating
Completion %

Good talk

Eli has had AT A MINIMUM a decent career as a QB.

His best season QB rating was 93.6.

Philip Rivers career QB rating is 94.8.

Rivers has had a better career than Eli's best season.

"Decent career," he says.

LOL.
