I'm not sure why punching a guy in the head is considered an acceptable way to defend the front of your net. If the whistle hasn't blown, and a guy's digging at your goalie, maybe take his stick or push him out of the way. But, punching him in the head accomplishes the goal, and no one ever calls it, so why not.
