Based on the tally of 108 voters (about 24% total) that have publicly released their ballots...

BBHOF Tracker by Ryan Thibs.xlsx - Microsoft Excel Online

Bagwell 85%
Bonds 50%
Clemens 49%
Griffey 100%
Hoffman 62%
Edgar 51%
Mussina 57%
Piazza 91%
Raines 82%
Schilling 61%
Trammell 48%

It's likely that many of the final percentages will be lower given that non-public ballots tend more conservative, but it's worth looking at.

What makes NO sense is why does Bonds have 50 compared to Clemens 49??

If you vote one in you got to vote both since they are the best 2 on the list!!!

Yea I wondered the same thing too...looks like the guy who voted for Bonds and not Clemens is Barry Rozner, who also voted for Sheffield (who admitted to PED use).

not to mention Piazza has 91%, if he wasn't a steroid question then why was he not a first balloter, or at least one to make it on his second ballot...

I think part of it might be the new rule that removes the voting privileges of anyone that hasn't covered baseball in the past 10 years....my guess is that a lot of people in that group were the stubborn types that would never vote for anyone even mentioned in the same sentence with a steroid user. But when you get rid of many of them (the number of eligible voters were reduced from about 650 to 450), you'll see a lot of candidate percentages increase.

I have made this argument for years. In the past, Clemens typically received a higher vote total, and I never understood why.

Biggest surprise so far might be Edmonds at 2.4%...definitely was thinking he could start off at 20%.

It's time for Bonds and Clemens to get in. This is not a Hall of Saints. It should be about whether you were a great enough ball player or not (as long as you didn't do anything too egregious, such as betting on baseball).

Also, the Hall of Fame should reflect the history of the game instead of pretend that steroids never existed just like MLB pretended it didn't exist.

Finally, so many players were using steroids on both sides (batters and pitchers) that one could argue that Bonds and Clemens were just making sure that no one had an advantage over them.

Updated results after 163 ballots made public:

Bagwell 79.8%
Bonds 48.5%
Clemens 47.9%
Griffey 100%
Hoffman 62%
Edgar 46.6%
Mussina 53.4%
Piazza 86.5%
Raines 78.5%
Schilling 58.9%
Trammell 46.6%

As expected, most of the top candidates so far saw their percentages fall a couple of points from last week's tally, with perhaps the most significant being Bagwell falling from 85% to just under 80%. Both Bagwell and Raines dipping below 80% probably means their final percentages will fall below 75% and miss making the HOF.

Looks like Griffey and Piazza make it in. As an old Expos fan I'd love to see Raines make it in the Hall as well.

I heard somewhere that the actual vote tend to be about 5% lower than the open votes. Has there been any documentation on this, or was this comment just someone's WAG?

Tom Seaver has the record of 98.84%. Will Griffey break it?

I am of the belief that EVERY voter should be required to write an article explaining their ballot.

There is one guy who claims to have forgotten who he voted for. Really? You forgot who you voted for? That, right there, is reason enough for me to want to revoke his privilege.

You voted for Bonds, but not Clemens? Why? Defend that. You voted for David Eckstein? Why? Defend that. You didnt vote for Griffey? Why? Defend that.

If he's going in as a Met, Piazza should be a shoo-in because there's no credible links to his alleged use of performance enhancing pharmaceuticals.

If he's going in as a Dodger, he was a dirty rotten scumbag steroid cheater and should get the Pete Rose treatment.

Edmonds fell off the ballot after one year. I think he deserved to be in, so that's kind of inexcusable to me. His bat, for a center fielder, and compared to other center fielders, was enough to get him in, but eyeball test and metrics agree he was one of the best defenders at the position for about a decade, too.

Of course, Lofton also inexcusably fell off the ballot in one year, so...

I think there is room for some of these guys to get extra votes next year. The only first-timers who should get real attention next year are IRod (shoe-in), Vlad (strong case), Manny, Posada... Wakefield(??)... Lee(??)...

I would expect next years class to be IRod (lock), Bagwell (near lock), Raines (maybe) and Hoffman (not likely). Do Manny or Vlad have a chance for first-ballot election?
