Hall of Stats acquired as many public ballots as they could and came up with, what they consider to be the best HOF ballot they've seen. Michael Silverman of the Boston Globe

1. Barry Bonds
2. Roger Clemens
3. Greg Maddux
4. Curt Schilling
5. Jeff Bagwell
6. Mike Mussina
7. Tom Glavine
8. Mike Piazza
9. Frank Thomas
10. Tim Raines

He said he had to leave Edgar Martinez, Craig Biggio, Jeff Kent, and Mark McGwire off because of space limitations. Well done Michael Silverman. More voters should be like you. There is hope.

Side note:

Dan Shaughnessey is still a complete buffoon....

Glad his grade illustrates the fact.

I hope most voters put on 10 names. I don't particularly care which 10 but I'd prefer it if they voted as many as possible.

I'd probably vote for the guys I thought were clean first and then vote for PED guys if I still had room. So my ballot would be (in no particular order):

Maddux
Glavine
Thomas
Morris
Moose
McGriff
Trammell
Biggio - I think these guys were clean. The others I have more doubts about but I'd probably give the last two votes to Piazza and Bonds.

And I'm not sure how people can separate Mussina, Glavine, Schilling by leaving one of them or two of them out

Well, consistency, for one thing. I also think those two were more likely clean.

Two pitchers from age 21 through 33
Player A 110-95, 1900ip, 123 ERA+, 40 WAR 3x all star, 1 top 5 cy young finish
Player B 174-132, 2680ip, 119 ERA+, 53 WAR 4x all star, 1 top 5 cy young finish

Player A would somehow manage to have one of the greatest old pitching careers of all time, despite pitching in the middle of the roid era. From 34-40, he put up a 134 ERA+ and 41 WAR. Pitcher B is Mark Buehrle.

As I said, the first 8 went to players I think were clean, the last two went to Bonds and Piazza. I picked Piazza b/c 1) I think he could get in and 2) despite playing on teams that were in the center of the mitchell report and the same locker room as MacNamee, he wasn't fingered.

How can you vote differently for Bonds and Clemens?

Leave them off, I understand.

Vote them in, I understand.

Vote one in but not the other? I just don't see the logic.

Think Piazza will fall just a bit short, but will be a lock next year.

And when was Bagwell fingered?

I still dont get the reasoning not to vote for Bonds. Even if you break his career down into "pre PEDs" and "post PED's" his first part of his career is more than enough to get him in the HOF. I for one cant make a distinction between any of the guys who played in that era. Im not inclined to "guess" who was clean and who wasnt so to me you either vote for no one from the era or vote for all available people from the era if their numbers deserve it.

When a book is written about how you cheated you don't belong in the Hall of Fame.
