Actually he was playing out of position in PIT...mostly NT, but versatile enough to move outside to DE in their 34 front.

He's a true 3 down DT, perfect for a 43 front.

In the 34 scheme in PIT the NT comes off in nickel so they could never justify his money...many Steeler fans would've rather they kept Hargrave even if it meant shifting to a 43 front instead of Dupree.

I count myself among them.

Fully agree. I wanted to see a shift to 4-3 to retain him in Pitt. He's a piece to really build around.

If anybody on the staff should know how, it should be MT...he was the DC of a 43 team in MIN, but like I said, the Steelers were not smart enough or bold enough to make such a change. My guess is they feel the DEF is on the rise and they could replace Hargrave easier than edge.
