When the story broke all we really knew was the what & where (pedestrian hit by car on i-595 near i-95 around 7am), then the who & how (Haskins hit by dump truck while trying to cross highway on foot, and a vehicular homicide case was opened).I haven't been following closely - what theories?
That really pulled at my heart. You can hear the desperation in his wife's voice. She knew something was very wrong.Yea...hard to hear his wife's reaction to "rescue". Clearly not suicide or alcohol just a guy thinking he could still make his plane while running across a freeway.
Poor choice of course but a weird situation to spike the football on "what a dumbass "
My best guess is he gambled & misjudged the speed of the cars. He was on his way to the airport so chances are he was pressed for time to make his flight. Busy freeway & made a bad choice to gamble on the “best” gap he saw. It’s a 3-4 lane westbound section where he got hit. Lanes are 10-12ft wide, so he was attempting to cross 30-50ft worth of busy traffic. A bad decision that cost him his life.It just makes zero sense to me that someone could cross a freeway and get hit by a car. You know the cars are moving at a speed that cant slow down to avoid you. So you would be ultra aware of the cars and when your window to run like hell would be.
.....and its not like a small car hidden from his view by a larger car hit him. The largest vehicle on the road hit him. There would have been no missing it.
To me something still doesnt quite add up from the prevailing theory.
I understand your point but people are human and make flawed decisions. No way. Are we listening to the same thing? She called 911 to report him walking on a highway and they tell her there was an incident there? Obviously putting her in a state of panic? They could have caused her (maybe not her but someone who was closer to the scene) unnecessary heartache or even harm if she were to try to get there and ran red lights, sped, got hit herself running across a street, left an unattended child at home, etc. This all especially true because the 911 operator has no idea who was injured and if it even was the person the caller was calling about. I wouldn't be surprised if that operator was spoken to for that
Agree, that was my point that it was a bad mistake. Not that her heart was in the wrong placeI understand your point but people are human and make flawed decisions.
I think it was reckless.Anyone here if he was suicidal or just being wreckless?
I read he was hit by a dumptruck, was he working on his accuracy?
You obviously can make jokes about it. I am a lot less sympathetic about ones demise when it came at the hands of self inflicted idiocyYou cant make jokes about this. Just not in good taste.
....but if you were to stoop to that level, which I never would, the joke to make is "Can read a freeway about as poorly as he could read a Cover 2."
Investigation is still pending apparently (takes up to 3 months). But news surfaced that he was apparently struck by not 1, but 2 separate vehicles, and possibly a 3rd. If that is true... then the gamble decision looks worse. I know the stress of the situation plays a part, but I can't understand how you can make such a bold move as to get struck by 2-3 vehicles.I still wonder if a car was found or not, and why the PD haven't stated this either way. If a car was found it clears up a lot. If no car was found it increases the questions.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the traffic homicide, but said in a statement Monday it will provide no further updates until the case is closed, which could take up to 90 days.
I get the 3 months thing, but news about a car being found can easily be announced to the media.Investigation is still pending apparently (takes up to 3 months).
