Call me crazy but I think there are tonnes of teams that would inquire about Miller. Pittsburgh for example would be a great fit. With the Letang situation maybe they just load up for next year and re-assess after the year?

I could see Washington lookign for a guy who's won a Vezina trophy.

Philly is always looking for a good goalie.

The Isles. Might be a great move for them.

What if the Lightning decide that Bishop and Lindback are 1A and 1B and decide to go out and get a plain old number 1?

The Panthers might like how Ottawa has gone with Anderson and Lehner to bring a young tender along slowly. They bring in Miller for at least one year to ease Markstrom into the starting spot.

I really think there could a slew of teams that would kick some tires on Miller. You try him for one year and if it doesn't work out you flip him at the deadline in a worst case scenario.

Just my :2cents:

The Pens actually could take him on next year. Especially if they move some other salary. It'd be adding like $1.25 if MAF departs. It would be stocking up for next year. Of course, he and Sid may need to have a heart to heart. :bawling: That said, if they helped each other win that other silver thing...they'd be cool.

That is a good guess. Here is a little blurb I found about him in the news regarding the trade:

Grant would have run up against some tough competition for a roster spot next season. Shero is making room for Pouliot, Maatta and Harrington, I would assume.

Zolnierczyk is basically minor league filler that if retained will be on a two-way deal. Grant truly didn't have a chance in the Penguins organization, his time was past when he had that horrible arm injury and all the d prospects that came along during that time. I hope he gets a chance in Anaheim, he could be a good offensive d-man not sure how good he is in his own end though.

My point is if some team gives Buffalo a 1st round pick for a 32 year old goalie on the decline making 6.25M in the final year of his contract they're NUTS. There are plenty of other options available in the trade & UFA markets. Which means it's a BUYERS market.

*sigh* Pens expected to qualify TK ($2M) and Jeffrey (somewhere around $650k).

This is a really stupid decision by Shero/Bylsma. Kennedy just is not worth that much money. At most he's a million dollar valued player. He plays no other role than an even strength 3rd/4th line winger/center. Too much status quo...

This is sort of what's bugging me. I like these players, and in general I liked the roster they had this year...but when it hasn't worked in multiple postseasons now, you have to make a change. They're sticking with the coaching staff, which is great, but then change has to come from the roster. Sure, the end of the year roster will look different, but adding in one small piece won't be enough in the postseason. This is sort of the reason I want a Letang trade. They need some new blood on the team. However, on the flip side, trading Letang is trading away 25-30 minutes of a great defensemen. YES, Letang has struggled on the D side of his game, but he still eats up the minutes. I'm confident with the Martin-Orpik pair, and I like Niskanen and Despres, but if the Pens trade Letang they NEED a top 4 D in return. Anyway, long way of saying I agree...they're being a bit stubborn. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results...that's what this sort of feels like. I trust Shero, he's honestly done pretty well over his career, and I don't *really* blame him for the struggles of this year's squad (2010 I do...), so I hope he can make 2014 work. Even if he sticks with the status quo this year, 2015 will be vastly different.

This may sound crazy, but I would ship Letang out even if they couldn't get a top four D man in return(tanger should fetch a king's ransom). Probably why I would never qualify as a hockey GM, but imho.. I'm ready for the future. If I could, in 2013/14, I would roll with Orpik/Martin, Niskanen/Despres, Bortuzzo/Dumoulin, Engelland. Let that youth free to play the game now and not when it's deemed safe. I look at how the two young defensemen with the bruins played for them during the playoffs and compare that to what the Pens have available to them in the minors. There's so much potential in the Pens minor league among d-men. Time to start taking some risks..

Yeah...I wouldn't go into the season with that D.

It's crazy, I know.

I just don't see Letang taking a discount to stay here, and Shero is more than likely going to try and get him to. Maybe Ray trades him to get back into the 1st round, this year. If there was ever a draft you would like to have a top 10-15 pick in, it is definitely this one.

That's how I see it happening. First rounder, top 4 D, prospect with some promise. The thing is, if Letang does sign, it'll be long term and have a NMC I'm sure. That would mean the Pens have Sid, Geno, Letang all with high price tags AND NTC/NMC. Hemmed in. Sure, you can look to the future and think "Well, the cap's gonna go up!" Which it should...but can't bet on that.

Okay...I THOUGHT the Bruins had cap space...and they do, about $5.8M, but they need to sign Rask. Ference and Horton are UFAs too.

Are a lot of teams holding off on the buyouts until next season? That way they have a clearer picture?

This is honestly my guess. Why blow one when a different more awful contract may reveal itself? There were some that had to happen (Flyers), some that didn't have to, but could be beneficial, and I think GMs are just holding back until FA starts too. Why buyout a player right now if you don't need to? But, then FA hits, sign a guy cheaper to replace that contract, and boom. Buyout.

Looks like me and dash will be giving each other the hairy eyeball all weekend.

NHL: Flames? plans could affect Blue Jackets | BlueJackets Xtra

What I glean from that is the Jackets are zeroe'd in on Lindholm. So if Calgary is able to move up, they will probably only be able to move up one. Colorado won't let go of #1 for what Calgary offered, and Florida, Tampa and Nashville aren't moving anywhere. So the Jackets could slide in and get #5 from Carolina and possibly have a choice between Lindholm and Barkov.

What does Carolina need? Young D? A highly rated goalie prospect? Two more picks? Jackets have all that to give.

I'd love to see the Jackets come away with 2 centers and there are five decent ones in their striking distance.
Barkov, Lindholm, Monahan, Wennberg, Horvat

Hockey Writers had an article on the Preds possibly being a match for Letang. Interesting to consider. Obviously Shero has connections there. Their first would have to be involved. The bigger question would be if they could pay for it.

I have guests coming into town this weekend, so I probably won't be seeing much of the draft. In all honesty, I think the price to move up into the top five is too high to pay and I will be happy if the Flames stand pat and just keep picks 6, 22, and 28. Build up the prospect base because I think the Flames will likely have another top 5 pick at next year's draft.
