I believe the plan with Snell is for him to start tonight for Sac, and then take the mound next Wed
in PIT.

Tonight - Harrison
Sat - Hicks
Sun - Winn
Tue - Webb
Wed - Snell

I'd imagine that Hjelle would be available to be an opener if necessary.

Interestingly, it seems Ray is now ahead of Cobb in terms of rehab. Cobb has just started a throwing program, Ray has thrown two bullpen sessions.

Again, I have ZERO expectations for Ray this year. Very seldom do pitcher throw any effective innings their first season back from TJ. ‘25 is where I will begin to expect results from him.

Craw is getting a LOT of helium. Mumblings that he may be good enough to bump Doval out of the closer job.

Seems a bit early to seriously consider that but Doval hasn't made the next jump in his development. If he continues to flounder or, worse, further regresses, and Crawford continues to dominate, then I could see it as a possibility . . . eventually.

On Thursday night Bryce Eldridge roasted a ball 111 mph, so hard it never got much more than 10 feet off the ground, hitting very top of RF wall. Had that had an extra inch or so of loft in it, he’d have four consecutive gms w HR in Modesto. The Nuts staff has allowed 8 HR all yr.

More hitters are coming!

He won’t get a cuppo until next year AT THE EARLIEST.

Beyond him, who else is there?

I went to the Nuts game today. Cox will not remain in San Jose much longer. He was 2-3 with a walk, a run scored and 2 RBI's, and 3 SB. (The team had 7 SB). He played a great CF today, and looks like a player. He's how hitting close to .350 with an OPS of .870.

The Baby Giants roasted the 1st place Nuts by winning 5 of 6, and outscoring Modesto 47-21 in the six games.

BTW, Eldridge did not play today.

Cox definitely deserves a promotion. He is a year older than the average competition in the Cal League and has, by far, the highest OPS on the team (next highest is Charlie Szyknowny, a late roster add to SJ due to injury, at .821, in only 13 games. Eldridge is the only other over .800, and that is due to a recent hot streak).
Cox' lack of extra base power is going to probably expose itself as he moves higher but his ridiculous on base (.451) and stolen base excellence (24 for 25 so far on the season) deserves better competition.

Looking at Eugene's roster, there is plenty of room for a decent hitting outfielder. Their best hitting outfielder is Tanner O'Tremba (.757 OPS), followed by Matt Higgins (.753) and Alexander Suarez (.551). Their 3rd best hitting outfielder (Turner Hill - .731) got promoted to AAA, while their 4th best hitting outfielder (Scott Bandura - .646) got demoted all the way to the ACL. There is definitely room for Cox.

And looking at Eugene's roster, I don't really understand what they are doing with Garrett Frechette. I guess the Giants gave him the Hunter Bishop treatment by aggressively promoting him despite lackluster numbers. He finished the 2023 season in the ACL after poor numbers at low A ball (a pattern for his career). So the Giants moved him up to high A ball. Now one would think that would mean regular playing time but that is not the case. He was on the roster from Opening Day, and was never listed on the injured list, but didn't get into a game until April 18th. Since then, he's played April 20th (2 days), May 3rd (13 days), May 8th (5 days), May 10th (2 days), May 15th (5 days), May 16th (1 day) and May 18th (2 days). He is slashing .200/.276/.240 in those 8 games. Not really sure I understand what the Giants are doing with him. They didn't feel the need to release him, they aggressively promoted him and barely play him. Seems they cannot make up their mind on how they view him at this point.

Rodolfo Nolasco, the acquisition from the Pirates, is off to a strong start with Eugene. In his first 7 games with the club, he has gone 8 for 28, with 3 walks, 5 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 4 RBIs and 2 for 2 in stolen bases. If he can keep that up, his 14 Ks in 31 PAs can be more palatable.

Agreed to all the above, but Bandura is at San Jose. He played yesterday. I was surprised to see him as I had noticed him on Eugene's roster.

Yeah, I see I was looking at the wrong notes. He did get assigned to San Jose.

By the way, have you looked at the ACL Giants roster? They have 9 outfielders, with Wade Meckler's rehab assignment putting them at 9. I guess they crammed all their outfielders there with the ACL teams being reduced from 2 to 1.

Not sure I see the point of this signing, unless the org believes it will be awhile until Bailey is ready. Otherwise, they are soon to have the same catching tandem in AAA that they started the season with. Then, Sands becomes superfluous (unless they have suddenly decided that Reetz is not worth keeping any longer).
