You are probably correct about Estrada, as I’m leaning to the Giants not resigning him either. But we now have a new man in charge and he might want to give Estrada at least an invite to show he still has it. Maybe Estrada was hurt this past season and Posey knows that it or is a softie for the fellow. Either way I hope him the best next year.
Very good point. My thought were kinda on autopilot seeing as the org bailed on him. But with a new regime in place, that assumption is unfounded.

Weak hitting middle infielders everywhere are in deep, deep, mourning with the departure of their Great Defender and Advocate. Also probably looking up those truck driving schools as a backup.

I will be in Phoenix for the Fall League 10/14-10/17, hoping to see six games, three with Scottsdale.

If you haven't been, it is worth the trip. Hotels are much less expensive than during ST. The "crowds" are often about 200 during the week, 1,000+ on the weekends. $10-$12 per game. Sit anywhere you want, and I mean anywhere. Players are often available to chat. Pretty relaxed atmosphere in spite of the competitive nature of the games. More camaraderie than competition. And the weather in Phoenix can be quite pleasant in October-November.
I'd love to go one of these years. OTOH, it can be killer hot too.

Kinda odd that the 2023 Willie Mac Award winner is cooked.

Same thing happened to Duffy, I think the following year he was traded away. It might be a honor and a curse to win it.
Duffy was a legit winner, though. He had a great year and was a HUGE fan favorite. And as tz said, there is a BIG difference between traded and DFA’d

Are you saying the Giants didn’t want Matt Williams? Or Zach Wheeler?

Or when you go to the grocery store, are you saying you don’t want your $150?
Nope only saying Duffy and Estrada. How can I get $150 at the Grocery store? Safeway? Krogers?

Duffy had a bad injury after that breakout season and was never the same except for short burst of the old Duffy and didn't play much after his trade.

Yes, I really liked Duffy but no doubt his body was injury prone.

My experience leans pleasant rather than hot, though have encountered that. Mid-November can get almost chilly.
True. I've spent a Thanksgiving down there and I needed a coat.

Our “Next Great Hope“ is only the #35 prospect.

Meanwhile, Detroit, Boston and Baltimore all have 2 top 15s each.

Thanks Farhan.

But hey, Detroit and Baltimore haven’t graduated nearly as many quality players in the last few years as we have, so that is probably why they have strong systems atm as opposed to us right now.

Oh wait…

AFL update:

  • 1B Bryce Eldridge: 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B (1), 2 K, 1 E (1) - Day 2 saw Eldridge get his first extra-base hit of the fall. He’s 2-for-9 (.222), but now also has four strikeouts with no walks early on, plus his first error.
  • 3B Charlie Szykowny: 1-4, 1 R, 1 K - Szykowny got into his first AFL game, picking up a single. The 24-year old 9th round pick in 2023 had a .295/.362/.451 batting line splitting time between San Jose and Eugene in the regular season.
  • SP Cale Lansville: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 WP - The 21-year old Lansville made the start, and had a mixed day, getting four strikeouts to no walks in the 2.1 innings, but also five hits leading to three runs, two earned, two of them part of that monster 8-run 3rd inning.
  • RP Tyler Vogel: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K - Tyler Vogel’s first AFL stint was one batter long, finally ending the nightmare 8-run 3rd inning with a fly ball to the only batter he faced. The 23-year old had a 4.74 ERA in 15 games at High-A this season, in a season in which he missed May, June, and nearly half of July due to injury.
