Per source, SFGiants top outfielder prospect Luis Matos has been promoted and is heading to Triple-A. Matos was ranked the fourth-best prospect in the system entering the season and has hit .304/.399/.444 at Double-A.

There can be a domino effect with promotions like this. Moving Luis Matos up, who played primarily in CF, would open up a spot in the OF for someone like Wade Mekcler, who is off to a hot start in A+

strong inter webs rumors that Harry is getting called up to start tomorrows day game.

Manaea to the bullpen. Strip still struggling. Jelly is a mess. JJ better suited in relief.

This makes some sense.

The kids are coming.

Orange colored glasses…

We could be in a similar situation as we were in ‘08/‘09. We don’t have the same pitching depth in the minors that we had back then (Bum and Timmeh coming up with Cain and Durty already up), but I think our positional depth is MUCH stronger (Schmitt, Matos, Luciano, Bailey, etc).

I expect Vaun Brown to get activated first. He is currently with Eugene, marked as "rehab" and is on Richmond's 7 day IL. But I could be wrong.

Good call. This just happened.

This makes much more sense than Wade Meckler (as I originally suggested). Vaun Brown was in the middle of a rehab assignment with Eugene, but Meckler could be an option at some point soon as well.

I look forward to how he handles the batters' wasteland that was known (and is known again?) as the Eastern League.

Another guy to watch is Nick Swiney. A 2nd round pick from 2020, he is moving up the ladder quickly. He dominated in limited action in 2021, putting up a 0.84 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 58 Ks in 38.1 IP (12 starts). He looked a little more vulnerable as a starter with Eugene in 2022 (3.84 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 105 Ks in 89 IP, 20 starts). However it was still a bit puzzling that they moved him to Richmond, to pitch in the bullpen but he has thrived. In 6 relief appearances, totaling 15.2 IP, he put on 16 runners on, letting only 2 score, while striking out 18. He recently got promoted to Sacramento and has thrown 2 scoreless innings in his first appearance there.

I forgot that Jackson would be nearing a return now. Assuming everyone stays healthy, I would guess that Beck gets optioned when Jackson is ready to be activated.

Keaton Winn is about ready to be called up. His stats after the first two games (where he didn't start):

2.61 ERA
1.40 WHIP
0.44 HR/9
11.76 K/9
3.04 BB/9
8.87 K/BB

If Harry had that walk rate, he'd be in SF.

I'm thinking Strip to the IL, Winn up. He's on the 40

He has made 8 appearances so far this year. 4 have been good+, 4 have been bad-. In order of his appearances…

he is tending in the right direction, but I would like to get more consistently good before rewarding him with a cuppo.

But if they need a starting arm, he may still be the answer just out of the situation, so you may be right. But perfect world (for his development) I want to see more from him first.

Again, if you throw out the games where he didn't start, you've got a pretty bright picture. He's a starter, not a bulk inning reliever. Those first two "bad" games were not starts. I think he's fairly close to being called up to take the #5 slot.

Guess we'll see.

Kyle Harrison last night in Sacramento:

4IP 0H 0R 1BB 9K....61 pitches.

He's damn close to ready.
I hate the IP limits they are placing on him, but that is baseball today.

While that game is awesome, and it is his 3rd awesome start in 5 games, his previous game was rough (3.1 IP, 5 ER, 4 hits, 3 BB).

And the most telling stat on his season, and probably a deal breaker for me…

0-2 on the season. Dude simply has no sphincter control. Imagine how he will shrivel in the big lights of the Show.
