I hate the IP limits they are placing on him, but that is baseball today.

While that game is awesome, and it is his 3rd awesome start in 5 games, his previous game was rough (3.1 IP, 5 ER, 4 hits, 3 BB).

And the most telling stat on his season, and probably a deal breaker for me…

0-2 on the season. Dude simply has no sphincter control. Imagine how he will shrivel in the big lights of the Show.
True. Dude dominated the doyers yesterday but they lost.

He's a looser.

Can't put him on a peddle stool.

The Giants have signed RP Phoenix Sanders to a minor league deal. He was a 10th round pick by the Rays in 2017 and will report to AAA. Sanders was released by Baltimore just a couple of days ago. He has a 3.41 ERA, 10.9 K/9, and a 4.35 SO/W rate in 6 minor league seasons.

FZ said (I think yesterday) that they are going to up Harry’s IP limit starting with his next start. He will have a 5 IP limit in his next start. He also said that they are not planning to call him up any time soon, but they ARE planning to call him up later in the season.

I support this strategy. Harry’s long term development is more important any short term benefit he may be able to provide by calling him up in the next 4-5 weeks.

I think the IP limit is weird but absolutely agree that he needs to come up when he is ready. However, I'm not sure he should be held back from joining the team if he dominates in AAA in his next 4 to 5 starts. Of course, maybe that constitutes what FZ sees as "later in the season".

I didn’t hear the whole interview, but apparently there are studies that support SLOWLY building up a pitchers stamina. He specifically mentioned Strasburg as the cautionary tale.

But I thought there was some caution in Strasburg's development and his arm still fell apart. Not sure that his injuries could have been avoided (except maybe when he was a child but I don't know how much he threw then).

A couple of trivia notes:

One 2022 draftee has already made it to AA - Wade Meckler, the 8th round pick, taking pitching by storm. He is off to a "slow" start (by his standards), slashing .333/.407/.333 in 27 PAs (6 games), thus far.

Meanwhile, 4 2021 draftees have gotten as high as AA. The first one we all know, Vaun Brown (Meckler could be considered the 2022 version of Brown). Brown, 25, started the year on the IL and then went to first San Jose and then Eugene on rehab assignments. He is now active with the Flying Squirrels and is hitting .340/.426/.566 in a combined 61 PAs (15 games), including .313/.389/.625 in 4 games with Richmond. I know it is early, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is at least in Sacramento by the end of the year.

The other 3 draftees are: Mason Black (3rd round), Landen Roupp (12th round) and Evan Gates (NDFA). Black has taken some lumps this year (4.60 ERA) but his WHIP (1.159) and K rate (12 per 9) look encouraging.
Roupp earned the spot in AA after dominating in San Jose and Eugene last year. He started the year on the development list (apparently, the organization felt he needed to work on some things in Arizona while the season started). He was activated earlier this month and has "started" 3 games with Richmond, throwing 6 total innings, striking out 10, while only allowing only 2 hits and 2 walks with 1 earned run.
Gates is the most surprising of the group just because of his lack of draft pedigree. However, like Roupp, he looked really good moving quickly through the org last year. He's been okay with Richmond this year, with an alarming 1.867 WHIP but a decent 10.2 K/9.

Giants have acquired catcher Jacob Nottingham from the Seattle Mariners. He has been assigned to AAA.

They are lacking in AAA depth at catcher. Good move.
No return has been listed, so likely a deal for cash considerations. Nottingham has typically flashed good power, slashing .249/.329/.413 across 10 minor league seasons.

I like Nottingham and thought he didn't get a fair chance at the big league level. However, his AAA numbers aren't that great this year but the only catcher on Sacramento's roster is Ricardo Genoves.

Just for technicality, Nottingham is not on the 40, so no corresponding move is needed.

With all the excitement surrounding Schmitt and Bailey, let’s not forget that this guy is still lurking…

While he is sporting a wretched .161 BA, his OPS is a not absolutely horrible .707. And he is still only 21.

Granted, he is disappointing so far, but I still list him as our #2 prospect behind Harry.

And we still have Brown, McCray, Matos, Fitzgerald, Whisenhunt, Winn…

Bednar who? Crawford who?

He's in the top five mix with Matos, McCray, and Arteaga. I think he's still recovering from the back injury.

Back injuries are a bitch, though. If he already has back issues at 21, that is super concerning.

Also with the caveat that he is young . . . Arteaga is scuffling a bit as well, in Eugene. He is sitting on a .209/.311/.405 slash in 38 games. He is a year younger than Luciano and one level lower.
