Tonight, Harrison pitched 3 innings, 2 hits, one run, 4 walks, 8 K's.

The RiverCats pitched 8.1 innings, walked 9, and struck out 18.
The Giants seem to be trying really hard to limit Harrison's workload early in the season. He also isn't looking his best.

The Giants' focus on getting live arms that cannot control where the pitch goes is on full display. Also, two of the arms gained in the churn last year, and retained during the offseason, were let go last week (Hildenberger and Fletcher). I wonder about the evaluation process the Giants use to determine talent.

1) Are they a light hitting middle infielder?

2) Are they a flame throwing pitcher with no control?

I am assuming on #2 that they can teach control. Worked with Rodon. And Gausman.

Sacramento argues that Rodon and Gausman are the exceptions.

Now this is interesting. For the first time, the RiverCats' roster shows a player on the SF taxi squad. It is Ricardo Genoves (also interesting that it is NOT Gary Sanchez). Presuming Bart does not go on the IL, when Genoves is off the taxi squad, what happens at AAA? Do they let Sanchez walk on Monday? Does Bailey go back to AA? Does Genoves get let go? Do they carry 3 catchers? Does Sanchez go to the big leagues, regardless of his lack of production?

The RiverCats have played 24 games so far. In those 24 games, they have used an opener 11 times. The other 14 games were "started" by a traditional starter. However, they look more like openers as well.
In 5 starts, Harrison has gone a total of 12 innings.
In 5 games (including 3 starts), Keaton Winn has thrown a total of 16.1 innings.
Drew Strotman (the spring training "darling") has thrown a total of 8.2 innings in 3 games (2 starts).
Only Tristan Beck has averaged more than 3 innings a start, throwing 13.1 innings in 3 starts.
Will any of these get stretched out to go at least 5 (are any capable of going 5 without completely blowing up)? Or is the opener really the future of the Giants?

A bit surprised but I guess he feels that he can find a better situation elsewhere.

He could just be retiring.

But yes, it could be that he is not happy with the coaching or the playing time, or whatever.

Anyone doing anything worthwhile in the minors to give any hope to the future?

Schmitt is hitting .301 at Sacramento and playing impeccable defense.

Ryan Walker has a 1.15 ERA in 15.1 innings, 16 K's at Sacramento (9 games, 3 starts)

Genoves hitting .300/.408/.400 at Sacramento

Meckler hitting .489/.538/.689 in only 45 AB's at Eugene (A+)

Ragsdale 2.70 ERA in 16.2 innings (26 K's) at Eugene (A+)

Sinacola 1.06 ERA in 17.0 innings (21 K's) at Eugene (A+)

Luis Matos is slashing .284/.391/.378 (126 wRC+) with more walks (13) than strikeouts (9) through his first 87 plate appearances in AA. He's also the 2nd-youngest position player in the Eastern League at 21 years/95 days.

Matos is not hitting for a lot of power (only 5 XBH), but he is driving the ball consistently, which is a positive sign. There is still a little more power for him to tap into from what folks are reporting.

Matos is also playing in a league that, from what memory suggests, suppresses power a bit, so his lack of extra bases may be partially due to that. After the struggles he had most of last year, combined with his age, I was surprised that he didn't at least start the season with Eugene. Looks like he is showing why the org made the decision to move him up. I guess they know what they are doing sometimes.

How do they "suppress power" ?

I think it may have something to do with the climate in most cities in that league and the park dimensions. Its known to not be favorable to hitters. Many a Giants' hitting prospect's shine has died in Richmond.

Loud rumors that Schmitt will be in the lineup tonight.
