Was it possible is just the system with an adequate QB that produced ? Could Sumlin be the next Spurrier (the Gator, not the Cock)? Producing massive numbers at QB, but not an NFL QB?
After seeing that, and what I've seen from Johnny, my vote is yes

I agree Johnny has looked pretty awful at times but I wouldn't be too quick to call him average. I forget which college coach it was but he said Manzel was the single hardest player he ever had to game plan against of all time. That is a bold statement. I personally think there is something there that can be great but if there is it shouldn't happen over night with him.

The thing that stands out for me is just how much pressure is on him. He has shown to handle pressure pretty well and has seemed to love the spotlight but this preseason was more attention that he has ever known and that can get to anybody, even people who crave it so.

Now I am not saying I can gaurentee he will be elite or that he will even be in the league in 3 years but I am looking to see what he can do once we are into the season bit and the media has let up a little or he has at least gotten used to the Micheal Jackson type media coverage he has been receiving.

it depends on what your expectations of the numbers... does manziel translate to todays nfl.. yes.. hes not a tebow.. he can really throw the ball he can make plays... hes in the mold of kaepernick and Wilson.. don't expect manning brees or brady numbers.. but 200-300 yrds on a good day with about 50-75 yds rushing and a td or two.. wont blow you out of the water but will keep you in the game... for fantasy values.. id say middle of the pack once he's a starter..

I think it's Sumlin although he still has to have some talent to work with. College QB's who can run and actually thrown (unlike my Michigan QB Denard Robinson) are always going to be hard for a college defense to plan for. I don't think that translates as much in the NFL because the defense is just too quick. Hill last night looked sharp and was making great decisions but he also stayed behind the line and looked to throw the ball the majority of the time even when it looked like he had some room to run. Manziel chose to run in those instances and made some good plays doing so but that also helped Hill's completion and yard numbers by looking for his WR's.

Plus that uptempo offense just had the SC defense gassed and back pedaling most of the night and they never looked to get comfortable out there.

Foot- love the rationalizations, don't agree with a single one of 'em, but I like that you're searching for something to hang onto.
Dblake completely disagree with the comparisons of Wilson, Kaeps and Tebow. Manziel can throw a little better than Tebow, but otherwise is exactly in that mold. He isn't at all like Wilson (other than size) or Kaeps. If/when he does get the chance to start, I do think your close there, middle of the pack. Let's not forget, Tebow was worth starting at one point too.

Judging from the morning talk shows, this led the Cowherd opening segment, this will be getting some major airtime. Wonder what some of the "experts" will have to say a little later on.

Wait - you mean the Browns wasted a first-round draft pick on a mediocre QB? The Browns?
