They will have from not until next fall to get a deal done. If this even gets close to spilling into next season, that is when we as fans need to suck it up and deliver a big FU to the NHL and players. That would be the biggest middle finger to the fans ever if they can't get something worked out.

It already is the biggest F U to us as fans, right now. Each team has lost around 120 games of hockey in the past eight seasons if you include the 04-05 lockout and 2012.

If the NHL and PA go past the point of no return this season, I think they can pretty much say goodbye to any hope of normalcy ever returning to the game they play, and/or profit from.

It's that reason why I still expect them to salvage at least a 48 game season. The league already ventured into uncharted waters when they canceled the entire season last time. It had never happened before in the world of N. American professional sports.

For them to do it again eight years later would be a mistake they might not make it back from. At least not how the game exists today with a salary cap, FA and amount of teams and players in the game.

I truly don't believe either party is ready to risk that scenario.

I finished the regular season with 115 goals and 209 points. Suck it, Gretzky.

My Columbus Blue Jackets just swept the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the playoffs. We're set to face the Wild in the next round.

EA Sports. It's in the game.

@dash:

Not a bad move IMO. It would certianly get a better recpetion than one from Bettman & Co.

... & at least they didn't have Fehr in it!

I can't argue either of those points. I was holding out for a Christmas miracle with a full slate of games on New Years Day, alas it was not meant to be.

Montreal Canadiens' Josh Gorges uses Twitter to plan outdoor game for fans - ESPN

Now I think this was an awesome thing for him to do.

Gary Bettman now at 2,323 career games canceled. Only 309 away from Cal Ripken now. Congrats!

Ripkin for NHL commissioner.

No.

It would be stupid to have a commissioner who knows nothing of the game, has never played it and spent his whole life involved in a different game.

@NHL's Bill Daly email: "We have not discussed convening a meeting recently & nothing new is planned at this point." #BecauseItsTheLockout

Sure would love to see an actual update from Bettman, instead of always from Daly. Hey Gary, do your friggin' job or step down.

He's busy planning the NHL Owners New Year's Eve BASH.
