"Everything is off the table!"
"Make-whole provision is contingent on everything else being accepted as is!"
"5-year contract term lengths are not negotiable, it's the hill we'll die on!"

So basically, those were all lies, and if the NHL had decided to continue negotiations weeks ago, we might already be playing hockey. Really pisses me off.

On the flipside, I hope Fehr doesn't ruin this. He'll probably try to get a tiny bit more, but if he pushes too hard and talks stall again, we're done, and in that case I wouldn't be able to side with the union anymore.

i think the cap being at $60M requested by NHL this year puts a dent in it. thats lots of escrow coming back.

I'm not sure if this is the same now but I know with Mike Rathje who the Flyers signed to a 5 year deal(played parts of 1 or 2 seasons(?) & spent the rest on ltir) that he could only retire once his contract was up. I'm not sure if there were any changes to the policy during these talks.

I'm also wondering what the rules are on buying a player out and then re-signing him, anyone know???

I believe buyout gives a min 1 year before being able to resign said player.

Also anyone know if they ever decided to calculate cap hit by years left and not years total? I know this was discussed as a method to get teams cap compliant.

@SunGarrioch: My sources say owners have privately informed Bettman cancelling the season is not an acceptable option.

@SunGarrioch: A league source said the NHL wants camps to open Jan. 12th

How many games, Dash? A 28-30 game season just doesn't cut it.

Fehr has yet to come back with a comprimise proposal. Every offer the PA has given so far has had some part the owners wont take (i.e. no lowering of cap ever).
The current offer has buyouts to get under the cap but counts as part of the player share. Players want that salary to not be counted as salary so they get more of the HHR.
If we are going to see a Kings banner raised before Valentines day the PA needs to work off this offer and stop throwing out new ideas to flex the cap

in teh event of a cancelled season I dont believe there should be a weighted lottery system to get teh 1st overall. meaning the shit teams from before get more chance. I think this time is should be 30 balls for 30 teams only. Edmonton should not get another 1st overall because of this.

higher weightings should go to those teams that have never had a #1 pick (other than if they traded for one.) the longer the history (1970, for example), the higher the weighting :D

Checking in again.

Maybe they should just repeat history and give a first overall to the Penguins. At least they're used to it. ;)

tsnjamesduthie: One of the more intriguing things in NHL offer is a draft lottery that would give all non-playoff teams a chance at first pick. Overdue.

JohnLuTSNMtl: Breaking: Hill the NHL would die on downgraded to speed bump which merely induced collective lower body injury. Length of injury: 2 weeks.
