tsnjamesduthie: One of the more intriguing things in NHL offer is a draft lottery that would give all non-playoff teams a chance at first pick. Overdue.

hmmm I smell danger. so a 9th place team is fighting for 8th knowing they are facing a team that will destroy them (yes I know the kings won it all but that is fairly rare from an 8th place team and they were not really an 8th place team after Dutter took over) so the team is looking at a quick 4 and out or a shot at 1st overall finishing 9th......hmmmmmmm.......hmmmm.....

Ok so here's my prediction on the counter offer...

-6 & 8 years on contracts.
-10% variance
-1 compliance buy-out, that does not count against players share(this is a teams choice so they should be the ones paying the bill & most teams who would use it have the $ to spend).
-$300 million make whole
-transitional cap of $63 million for next season(same as this past year if I'm not mistaken).

Obviously there's more, I'm just saying what i think from the changes in the NHL's latest offer will be touched/added. If this is what they ask for I personally don't see them as unreasonable...

1/14 chance at top pick (assuming odds are even from last place team to 9th place team) ... is that worth 2 playoff home gate receipts - and an unlikely chance for a playoff run?

Okay, boys. Just whip them out, compare, and be done with it. I'm almost out of football!

NHL source told me a deal needs to be done by January 11. If not, the 2012-2013 season will be cancel.

higher weightings should go to those teams that have never had a #1 pick (other than if they traded for one.) the longer the history (1970, for example), the higher the weighting :D

As a Flyers fan, I think we may have the best odds...
