Are we to believe the owners are going to go after every player as if they're an UFA? I just don't see it.
yeah, not going to happen, but it's the players' most drastic card to play.
basically saying it's not just the league with the means to blow the fuckin' thing up.

For the life of me I can't figure out why the NHL is willing to die over the current hurdle(contract length, salary variance & CBA length). It just makes no sense to me they got the 50/50 they needed/WANTED, they've saved a ton of money by not paying guys and putting on games and they still haven't come up with a 100% viable pension plan(which is supposedly big for the players). I'm not sure what the NHL really wants now but I'm starting to think their plan this whole time is to not have hockey until the second week of January.

On the flip side I can see how these issues are a BIG deal to the players.

1. CBA length of 10 years means guys who come into the league in the next few years have no say in their working conditions.
2. Contract length limits mean that the tops guys will be commending more of the salaries as they'll get raises and be the targets of bidding wars more often and the "Blue Collar" players will receive less money.
3. Salary Variance also hurts the non-starts because of the reason I stated above.

This is getting to the point where it's way beyond ridiculous. The two sides aren't meeting, federal mediators are fucking useless & there's no end in sight. I still blame the owners for this whole mess and nothing is going to change that but one side has to be the bigger man now and I'm really hoping the players step up and give the NHL a "take it or leave it" offer. If they say yes we have hockey back if not the season is cancelled, they desolve or whatever or the NHLPA takes the cap off the table & we'll have hockey by next year.

I think I'm finally at that point where I just don't care anymore. I'm just tired of reading/hearing about it now.

Yeah, that's how I feel. Owners have gotten 95% of what they want, but now they're just being stubborn. Obviously the players are being stubborn too, but they're idiots, not businessmen, and they've already conceded a lot, so I don't blame them as much.

And here I thought this was the season of giving - silly me. The NHL just wants to take.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Not 100 percent, but it's likely NHL will cancel more games before end of the week

Bill Daly was on Sportnet's HockeyCentral at Noon today - Here's a collection of tweets from the interview:

Hockey Central ‏@SNHockeyCentral

Bill Daly: "I would expect overwhelmingly the players will pass (the vote)"

Hockey Central ‏@SNHockeyCentral

BIll Daly: "We're prepared to shut down the industry over a deal that's not right for our owners... There are a large number of issues."

Hockey Central ‏@SNHockeyCentral

Bill Daly: "They've proposed a cap on escrow."

Daren Millard ‏@darenmillard

Bill Daly agrees with @RealKyper that it's a "crap shoot" that the fans and sponsors will return when a deal gets done.

James Mirtle ‏@mirtle

Daly also says what the cap will be is another big issue. I don't see it. NHL wants $60-million in Year 2; Players proposed roughly $67-mil.

Hockey Central ‏@SNHockeyCentral

Bill Daly: 50/50 deal not accurate until all details settled

Chris Johnston ‏@reporterchris

Lots of interesting stuff in Bill Daly interview on FAN590, including acknowledgment that it's a "crap shoot" how NHL rebounds from lockout.

Maybe Bill Daly = GunsAndBeer??? Maybe they just want hockey in real hockey towns/cities.....not those silly Nintendo cities??? :heh:

***Tangent: It's funny, because I probably never (never might be a bit dramatic) would have even gotten into hockey if it weren't for Wayne Gretzky moving to Los Angeles. Once I saw Felix Potvin play against the Kings in the '93 CF's, I was hooked on those bad-arse looking Koho pads and the hard hitting. Dougy Gilmore and Wendell Clark were fun to watch because they were good AND mean. What I'm trying to say is, I'm glad that most people don't think like GunsAndBeer and that I was able to be a lucky one that was turned on to hockey.....now if only the bastards would put the game back on air. :lm:
