So if talks fail, and the Season is cancelled, how many people are NOW done with the NHL and all their BS this time?

They know no matter what, you'll be back!

They stand a better chance of getting me back if the season is wiped because of the situation in my city. Half a season is more devastating to the Jackets than no season in a lot of ways. A wiped season, high draft pick, concession from DC for the local businesses and a year for JD to stategerize is light years better for me than hurredly slapping together... something.

And it sucks even more living in Buffalo because all we have is Hockey and Football, and at least the Sabres have given me some hope over the past several years. :(

Same here. Except for that "hope" thing.

It's not us the NHL has to worry about losing. We will come back. We will buy tickets. We will buy jerseys and crap.

It's the new fans they made that they have to worry about that. The NHL was GROWING. Now it will decline. Those hinge fans will not give a shit if there is a season or not. This is very bad for the sport in America. I really hope some networks here step up to show more college/CHL games and give a big FU to the NHL.

And not to sound one-sided, the players can go fuck themselves too. They could have had a season. Hard for me to feel bad for someone make millions of dollars.

Two things on this:
1) Yes, hardcore hockey fans - those of us that grew up on the game - will always come back. But there aren't an infinite number of us. The league really fucked the dog with casual fans. Those are dollars that make a huge difference.
2) It's hard to fully blame the players, when you consider they negotiated in good faith and the rules got changed on them. I know they are whining millionaires, but not one of us would accept a big salary and accept it getting taken away as soon as two months later without saying something.

What I don't understand is, the owners are the ones who OFFER the long-term contracts correct? Am i taking crazy pills here? They really want to make a rule to prevent themselves from huge contracts?

Business mentality. If you ask any one of those owners they will tell you they didn't *want* to sign those players to those big front loaded contracts. They *had* to because everyone else was. They are victims here. It's not to stop *me* from offering that contract. It's to stop *them* from doing it, so I won't have to as well.

And that's why I want to nut punch every fucking one of them.

.

Because they are in competition with each other. If the owners 'agree' not to offer deals over a certain time frame or dollar amount than the NHLPA can charge them with collusion. On the other hand, if the NHLPA tells a player not to accept an offered deal and hold out for more its all allowed.

The players know that if one or two owners offer super long deals or super high dollar deals it ends up affecting all the teams in the league. The players just like to play dumb and pretend that it doesn't.

Dash used that earlier - so in essence, that is like a double negative and yours cancels his out.

So there will be a season afterall...

Did Dash use his own "It's Over" or my "It's Over?"

It's a partnership. The players could decertify and put an end to salary caps completely, but they haven't because even they recognize that long term, a healthy league is better for everyone.

The owners have forgotten it's a partnership IMO. View the players as cattle. Their words, not mine. They got everything they wanted last time, and want more this time around. I think they underestimated the union resolve though.

The biggest thing here is Bettman. I think any other commissioner, and we're playing hockey. The players HATE him. He has galvanized them. I think the majority of them would be willing to concede and accept the most recent deal. Just not from Bettman.

Word is some of the owners expressed having Fehr in the room was a deal breaker in and of itself.

I'd really like to see the exact differences between the last NHL offer and the NHLPA counteroffer.

I also think it's ridiculous that the NHL started with the most ridiculous of offers back in the fall, and yet feel it's okay to repeatedly walk away from anything the NHLPA proposes. Negotiation, fellas. Offer, counteroffer. Offer, counteroffer. Until you get closer. Owners keep acting like petulant child. "That's the hill we die on" ?? Give me a break.

Are you sure that's the reason the players haven't decertified? Because they value the partnership and a healthy league? I am not sure I agree. Either way my post was in response to why the owners want to protect themselves from the massive deals. I certainly understand why some more responsible owners want some protection from less responsible ones.

Word is some of the owners expressed having Fehr in the room was a deal breaker in and of itself.
Well if that's the case they need to get over it. Just like the players need to get over Bergman being in the room.

Bettman was changed to Bergman by auto correct. It improved the post so I left it.

I hate both sides right now, but at the end of the day my boss has the final say in all decisions made at work, even over the union workers.

The players need to give in eventually. Fehr won't let them because he is a union guy. He was hired to get them the best deal, not save the sport. Thats why unions are going down hill in this country....keep pushing and pushing and the world will be rid of them.

That may have been it for me... I realize that I can live without the NHL now. Fuck them. Maybe I'll come back in the distant future.

They had a chance to give the fans at least something this year, and decided to just fuck us over.

All done.
