Guy on TSN radio says players looking at it in a "Who are you to tell us that term limits are 5 years and CBA should 10 years? kind of way after the NHL made it clear they wont bend on those issues. (Not his exact words at all, but same idea)

Um, let me fucking think. They are your god damn bosses, the guy with all the fucking leverage.

:L:L:L

"Donald Fehr saying 'Who are you dictating how the rules are going to be?'"

i am about to fucking explode.

People have not been fans for nothing. We eat this game up and, unless you live in Canada or want to watch some really shit quality hockey, you're coming back.

The owners have us over a barrel. They have a product that is built for the technology age, just like all major professional sporting leagues.

I really think that the TV contract they signed with NBC, and the success of NHL network and center ice made them realize just how much more money there is for them to reap. With that new profit potential in mind, it emboldened the owners' to push harder against the union to get them to kowtow to them. Set the league to the way they really want it, and put it back on the ice when it satisfies them.

There will be sacrifices, but they apparently seem willing to weather the short term problem in hopes of enjoying future profit potential.

What I don't understand is, the owners are the ones who OFFER the long-term contracts correct? Am i taking crazy pills here? They really want to make a rule to prevent themselves from huge contracts?

We all saw this coming after the first lockout. Things started slow then the big contracts came back. If you don't want to get to this point don't do it. If a team wants to offer a bajillion dollars to an average player, let them. If they want to throw the house at a phenom, let them. Your the owner. No one is making you sign long contracts. Yes, it's a competitive market, but for fucks sake grow up.

Its hard for me to be anti-players considering how much the owners want to fuck them over.... could have alot to do with the fact that my team's owner is one of the many dumbasses ruining his team.

Dash used that earlier - so in essence, that is like a double negative and yours cancels his out.

So there will be a season afterall...

But you just posted it again when you quoted him, so in essence, you just canceled out his double negative, so now there won't be a Season again.

Fehr doesn't want what is best for the game. That's the problem.

I really want to know who the major decision makers are on the players side.

I think we all feared Fehr. There are runors out there saying that on Tuesday the players were told if Fehr came back to the table that it could mean the end of getting a deal done. Dont know if that was said but it seems to be the case

End of the day:

1) The owners got everything they wanted in the last CBA. Still couldn't control themselves.
2) Even in the most hardline NHLPA proposal, the players are the only ones conceding anything here. They gain nothing on the previous CBA. (The NHL softening earlier ridiculous demands is not "conceding".)
3) League revenue has been growing, why screw with a good thing.
4) Bettman will have presided over 3 work stoppages, probably two of which lead to a lost season, with 3 different union leaders.

Fuck Fehr, I don't think he's helping at this point, but fuck Bettman and the hardline owners a hundred times over. This is bullshit. The owners took a good thing, got greedy, pushed too hard, and the players aren't caving.

I wish I was mad enough to go dickstabbing, but I pretty much gave up on a season when the NHLPA hired Fehr.

I went dickstabbing last Halloween but I now have 6 restraining orders. Sensitive folks!

Side note, I cannot believe the participants in this negotiation didnt get a deal done, they are all trying so hard!
