Huh, never head of that rule before. Guess it is understandable.

Besides I just replcaed Kessel with Sturm in this idea :D

Well I could be wrong but I remember hearing last year that the Flyers couldn't trade their 2011 1st round pick because of the Pronger trade. The same was said about Toronto.

Is there any rule against trading players away for nothing? I mean, if Boston really had to get rid of someone, and couldn't take any salary back, could they just give them away?

Or, even better, maybe someone would say "Okay, I'll take overprice Thomas, but then I also want you to give me a decent, underpaid player." (Don't know who that would be on the Bruins, but you get my drift.)

No wonder we didn't have it traded. :D

That happened with the Flyers, just not as dramatic.

We traded Upshall as a dump for Carcillo, but the Yotes had to take a 2nd rounder too.

I really feel that we should look to move Sturm. I really feel that he's starting to get past his prime at this point in his career. We already have plenty of veteran leadership in Recchi and Chara. Savard is a great quarterback on the PP and he really seems to energize the team. I would hate to lose him, but if we had to, I wouldn't mind seeing him go to a team like LA. Playing on a line with Smyth or Brown would be pretty exciting to watch. The bottom line is that the bruins could really use a little more offensive help if either of these trades went through so which teams have this is spades and needs to bring in some playmakers?

Well back in the 90s Ray Sheppard (and I think Kris Draper too) was traded for $1. Not sure if that would still be allowed or not. That was obviously before the cap. They simply didn't want to pay those guys. Not sure what the $1 was used for so its tough to evaluate that trade.

Devils had traded some old, broken expensive players before too, by throwing in prospects / picks as a kicker.
I forget the names of them... 5 years ago, i'm thinking.

If I recall correctly, it was Vladimir Malakhov that Louie Lams shipped to the Ducks, puck...I don't think he ever played for Anaheim, all it did was clear some space.
