Growing up, there was no one name more synonymous with the NFL than Dick Butkus.
RIP
Even down to his name...never been a better football (defense) name. The best QB name ever is of course Joe Montana. Sounds like the name of a QB in a movie.

"Dick Butkus", a name that just screams old time, hard nosed NFL linebacker. For all the great ones that have come and gone over the decades, his name was just one that everybody could visualize as a football player. The other one that always comes into my mind when thinking about great football names is Bronco Nagurski.

RIP to a true legend. You have to be that tough to have that name and still be fearsome. Possibly the most meme-able name in sports history, at least before Woke became a thing...

He was definitely one of the all time bad-asses of football, per all the NFL Films stuff on him (he was before my time), but what the NFL Films stuff also makes clear is that he had range as a MLB and could pick off passes too. He was the uber prototype MLB.
