Son-of-a-bitch. I just read that on Yahoo. I was in the process of texting a friend of mine (a Bears fan) about their 14-game losing streak and sent another message instead. Is and always will be an all-time great. Rest in peace, DB51.

"Dick Butkus was the meanest son-of-a-bitch to ever play professional football. He didn't like anybody in a different colored uniform."

He was a great player and I loved him as a kid in the movie Gus

Great watch......!

Thank you
By the time my football awareness was full blown (late 60’s when I was 13/14) his knees were shot. He had lost the lateral speed but still owned the middle like no one has before or since. Didn’t get much of the Bears on TV in TX or CA because they just didn’t win (2 damn winning seasons with him is still incomprehensible to me) but when they were on TV I watched. Because he mattered. Only guy I would ever consider rating above him is LT but it’s arguable.

I remember one time there was a segment on him where he spit a loogey on the ball before the center hiked it......

RIP

Maybe the best football player to never make it to the playoffs.
I still think of him as the best linebacker ever. A beast among men. The funny thing is that after football he became a truly nice and gentle man. RIP

He was prolly always a kind and amicable man, aside from when playing football.

I never got to see him play, but have always had nothing but respect for him.

It’s not like he was Ray Lewis or LT.
