Baker taking Ortiz out in game 6 was the nail in the coffin. The rest is a byproduct of that.

I cannot fault Nen and have nothing but admiration for him as he pitched the last 1/4 of the 2002 season with his arm being held on his shoulder by elmer's glue, bubble gum, and a couple rusty staples. Yet until the WS, he showed up and did his job every day. I don't think he was even cracking 90 mph by the WS, which is devastating considering he was 97-99 on the gun when good. He literally gave his arm so that the Giants could be in a position to even BE in the World Series...and he HAD a ring with MIA so he didn't have to do it. He never came back after that.

Yeah, 2 really soft hits shouldn't have been the end of him .

But still, it was literally an act of god (random gust of wind) that kept the Angels in that game.

also, taking him out only got it 5-3.

Worrell closes the door on the 8th and Nen probably does slam it shut against the bottom of the order.

IIRC, his pitch count wasn't up and when you know your closer ain't right, you have to get the most from your starter in order to preserve/hide your pen. Everyone KNEW Nen wasn't right. Why tax your pen by pulling him short of needing to? Dusty rode those arms into the ground to get there, I have no fucking clue why he didn't do so in the situation that actually warranted it.

Were ANY of Felix, Worrell or Nen ever the same?

IIRC, Worrell closed games out for us for a few years after, FROD was ok but not spectacular for a small period of time, and Nen never pitched again.

Which is part of its flaw and why I like WPA.
eh, not a fan. People use WPA and assume that someone with a higher WPA is automatically more "clutch" when in reality it could be that they are presented with more chances to swing a game. Also, it's not predictive and I have never heard of WPA being a learnable, or furthermore, repeatable skill. I'll stick with WAR as my catch-all statistic, and FIP, xFIP, and all the other pitching rate statistics for everything else.

Stealing? That's a little harsh. I was thinking of giving a link, but most people here just automatically ignore anything Fangraphs/BP has to say. Besides, it's not anything completely revolutionary or new. The D-Backs suck, and good SP is a commodity.
I know man, it's all good.

How about trade David Price?

Boston is a trainwreck right now.

Plus they have over 60 mil in just straight albatrosses in Hanley, Panda, Craig and Rusney.

I legit could've done a better job than Cherington.

Keep Greinke, the Diamondbacks are doing poor because Pollock is out injured.

A big loss, yes, but they also are a bit lacking in depth and development with some of their younger pitching hasn't quite come into view yet. They were a legit sleeper team, it's when they started being trendy some folks seemed to start piling on them.

Yeah i thought they'd be a sleeper.

They were really an 83/84 win team last year based on metrics, who added a 6 win SP. From a division rival.

The bigger issue was moving Enciarte in the deal for Miller. But considering he's been hurt a lot too....may not have mattered that much (for 2016).

Can the Sox pull another 2012 salary dump trade if they give someone David Price? will they take a tough deal or two?

Not with the price tag Price already carries.
