Detroit Tigers Ongoing 2016 Thread

Tigers have payroll obligation of over $170mil for 2017. Unless they dump a big contract, I don't see them adding any expensive players. Even declining Maybin's and F-Rod's options would only knock down payroll obligations about $16mil.

They need to do something to address the worst defensive outfield in baseball giving away -35 runs. That cannot last unless all three guys are beyond mashing in the lineup.

They aren't replacing jd or upton... and maybin was solid when he was here... all they really need is a left hander that can man cf.. and tyler collins could be he guy. Or maybe they use moya to make a low key addition at cf.

I imagine Avila will take another flyer on a relief arm from the free agent market....just hope he doesn't do something stupid like a three year deal.

Maybin is injury prone and doesn't hit for enough power to be an asset overall IMO. Unless he comes back to form on defense like he was at SD, he really shouldn't play full time at CF.

I just don't see moya back next year... unless they make a crazy move and trade jd since he is in the last year of his contract and think moya figured out how to field.

No...just making a point, that Tigers have very little financial flexibility.

Maybin is injury prone and doesn't hit for enough power to be an asset overall IMO. Unless he comes back to form on defense like he was at SD, he really shouldn't play full time at CF.

Maybin was perfect in the 2 hole.. power doesn't concern me at all... injuries do so having a competent backup would be a good idea... but maybin was great this year.

No...just making a point, that Tigers have very little financial flexibility.

They also have 23 of 25 men under contract... so to be honest... they don't need finacial flexibility this year... plus this free agent class sucks huge asshole as far as pitching goes.

If JD does not get a new contract this winter....he'll be gone. Either in a winter trade, if some team offers the moon,...more likely at trade deadline.

Tigers were a little bit of luck away from a post season run... i doubt any major changes happen. If zimmerman gets and stays healthy the rotation is a strong one and the lineup was pretty good. Only place real improvement is needed is the pen... and jimenez is going to get a shot this year.

I dont think maybin's defense is a reason tigers lost a single game off my memory... his bat wona few though.
