smitty....you should be pissed! Western beats a major powerhouse like EMU by 2 touchdown - and does not move up even one spot in the rankings!

NOT this time. WMU is one of only 5 unbeaten teams. The other 4 will probably be ranked 1-4 in the polls. They have to move the Broncos into the top 15.

Meanwhile....I can see the EMU season unraveling. Three games left. Need one win to be bowl eligible....but 6-6 may not ensure a bowl bid this year. Looks like the Central Michigan game will be BIG for both teams.

Current ranking :-):)
1. WMU 8-0
2. Grand Valley State 8-0
3. UM 8-0
4. Ferris State 7-2
5. Wayne State 7-2
6. Saginaw Valley 5-3
7. EMU 5-4
8. CMU 5-4
9. Michigan Tech 3-5
10. MSU 2-6

Not totally surprised. I was more expecting F-Rod to get traded early too. But his option was smaller

Maybin traded to the Angels for mediocre prospect Victor Alcantara. Projected to being a BP arm. He's the #8 prospect in a terrible farm for the Angels. Avila Sr already running this team into the ground.

Check out the trash we are going to trot out in CF

That's the biggest issue I have with Maybin's trade. I understand salary dumps, but with no viable prospect for CF who can actually play the position well, they pretty much have to make another move.

I assume they will add a ''lesser'' CF via trade or a free agent. I wonder if they'll consider Austin Jackson? Just guessing but he might be available at half of what Maybin would have made. I read where the Yankees have an overload of young and old outfielders.....maybe a trade?

Really hope Jones and Moya aren't 2/3rds of the starting outfield next year.

(Did Avila notice the Tigers record with and without Maybin last season?)

If it is Moya/Jones/JD (left to right) in the outfield, then Avila pulled off a miracle trade. :)

Of course, only one out of hundred balls hit to the outfield will be caught.

I think it's time to get rid of Victor..... he is too old injury-prone and can't play a position anymore. I don't know how they can move him other than trade him and eat some of the salary.? If there are changes to be made this offseason I believe having Victor only able to play DH shorten's the bench. Being able to use others as DH would give us a bench of 5 and save a bit of salary.

Boston seems like the best spot to deal VMart, to me.

They need a DH and Dombrowski liked him enough to sign him, twice.

Boston still has to deal with Pablo Sandoval. Do they give him another shot - this time as their DH?

Sadly, I see Kinsler as being the next trade chip (behind JD). Still has a lot of on field value and two years of control. There are a lot of young 2B around that could fill the hole or let Iglesias and Machado become the Super Fielding DP Combo - that can't hit for crap.

As Dr. Arliss Lovelace would say, "let the party begin". Time for a house cleanin. Will Miggy and JV be part of this purge? And will ticket prices go up this year?
Looks like Avila has a 5 year plan comin down the road.:gaah:

I have seen this "suggestion" in a couple of articles recently. It proposes that Detroit package Verlander and Cabrera, in trade, to one of the 4 or 5 teams that could afford their contracts. Neither article gave an opinion of WHICH wealthy team would want or need these two aging and (soon to be) overpaid stars. Of course it was suggested that Detroit pick up some of the cash in a deal - and in return receive "several good prospects". [I think both authors were looking at their fantasy trade as mainly a salary dump for the Tigers.]

Personally....I imagine that any GM willing to take on contracts totaling over $300mil for two soon to be 34 year olds, would be replaced before a trade was completed. The Tigers would have to pick up at least a third of the money owed....and then, what is the point?

Here's the deal on Verlander and Cabrera, and to some extend J.D. and Kinsler .... keeping them and not improving the farm system kind of puts the Tigers in a rut of being around .500, maybe a bit higher, for about 4-5 years, but IMO not a legit World Series threat. Trading them for high-level prospects puts the Tigers in a scenario where they step backward for a couple of years (60-70 wins), but have a chance in 3-4 years of the youngsters maturing and getting us to a World Series.

So, do we want 4-5 years of good, not great teams, or are we willing to suffer through a couple of crap years to have a better chance of contending for the big prize?
