Traded him for Cespedes, A. Wilson and Gabe Speier. Cespedes got us Fulmer, and Speier was thrown in on the deal to get Maybin. Alex Wilson is still with the team and pitching okay out of the pen. In hindsight, not a great trade for the Tigers, but not a horrible one.

And who knows, Fulmer could turn out to be better than Porcello in the long run.

Porcello would not have won 20 games with the "sporadic" offense the Tigers have. Verlander has pitched better than he has and he'll be lucky to win 15.

True. Fulmer also deserves to be better than 10-7.

Rick has a better WHIP, better ERA and gets people to ground out at a much better rate.

JV has him in innings and Ks.

Until recently I didn't think RickyP could win tCYA, but now I think he has a good shot. And not just because of Ws.

I was set on the idea that Zimmerman would need to be a #1 starter.

He's brought less than nothing in the second half.

Good thing DD gave us a few great parting gifts in the sell off or this season woulda been over a long time ago.

RickyP goes complete game for the W, on 89 pitches.

JV now only has him in Ks.

Ricks gonna win his first CYA this year. (11 starts in row of Atleast 7 innings and 3 or less runs. 29 walks in 210.2 innings on the season.)

13 games left and 2.5 games out of a wildcard slot.
Looks like Boston is pulling away in the east after former Tiger and guy that regularly thought of as trash by many except me on cbssports game logs for years Ricky Porcello won his league leading 21st after winning only 9 a career low.
I recall the Porcello trade was mostly about money. Tigers were not willing to pay him what he was going to get eventually as a FA. We got a sample of Fulmer but Ricky has won over 100 games since 2009 so to expect Fulmer to match that in his next seven seasons is foolish. I never would of thought possible he could win that many games pitching in Fenway to be honest.
Congrats to Mary Weider for winning Tiger fan of the year. At age 105 now, she went to her first Tigers game in 1926 the same day our iffster was getting punched in the face by Ty Cobb after he got annoyed by his heckling.
:heh:

Britton should win the Cy Young imo. 0.59 ERA and 0.85 WHIP and 0 blown saves.
Dennis Eckersley the last AL winner of MLV and Cy Young in same year.
Britton could win both.
Willie Hernandez is watching.

ESPN gives the Tigers a 25% chance to make the postseason. Gotta go 9-4 minimum, maybe 10-3.

OK...bitching.

Detroit is planning on giving Fulmer two more starts this season AND using him in the post season! In his last 5 starts his ERA is 6.23. His WHIP is 1.40. Is this kid's arm worth a wild card spot? His performances in 4 of the last 5 games he has pitched look more like the starts of Anibal Sanchez than the youngster many are calling the ROY. Could it be some "non-players'' are trying to save their jobs because they know Fulmer's replacement will be one of the two "mistakes" they signed last winter?

Porcello's just been remarkably consistent this year. He's gone 5+ in every start and he's given up 3 or fewer in 23 of his starts. The most he's given up was 5 runs (three times). His last 11 games have been pretty amazing.

July 29-Sep 19:
11 starts, 84.2 innings (has gone 7+ every game), 56 hits allowed, 5 walks, 66 strikeouts, .507 OPS allowed

In a 162 season, he'd be on pace for just 16 walks in 262 innings.

I will agree Porcello has been more consistent than Verlander. But the biggest difference between the two is still run support. Each has 31 starts. Boston has scored 199 runs in Rick's starts. Detroit has scored 119 runs in JV's starts. In eight of Verlander's starts, the Tigers scored 1 run or less. That has only happened to Porcello in three of his starts.

Agreed, Porcello's gotten some very good run support. Sox have scored 6+ runs in his 17 of his 31 starts. 3-5 runs in ten other starts as well. Combine that with Porcello's performance (he's done enough to keep the Sox in just about every start) and that gets you a 21-4 record.

His home win streak was impressive. But he's really cranked it up a notch. Early on his run support got a lot of the credit, but lately, it's him. (That CG loss turned the narrative on its head.)

Boston has the 1-2 starters as far as innings go, at the moment. Price deserves a lot of
Credit for the recent success too. That month from hell with no off days definitely went differently than I thought it would.
