When Iggy and Nick C are back this gives the Tigers more good options. Collins and Salty and Romine and Magee and Aybar on the bench someone has to go down....who? Or do they go with one less in the Pen?

If they make it to the playoffs, you can go with one less pitcher. The rotation should go down to 4.

Ausmus said yesterday that Iglesias' leg is still bothering him, so he will probably get more re-hab time. Castellanos has not started swinging a bat yet, so his projected Sept 6 return might be pushed back a little. MLB has him listed as a mid-Sept return.

There are a few garbage option to get rid of pitching wise once erybody is back.

Be better if NickyC comes back last imo. Just toss out who is doing the worst. Which should be Lowe is he isn't already "done for the year" by then.

Iggy could be shelved for the year as far as I'm concerned.

Starts against lefties at most. Even then, I don't care if he plays.

He brings nothing.

Id say basicly the same if it was Machado starting over him.

He hits like a 12 year old. And his range is no better than Romine.

Just can't agree on Iggy........I'm a believer when it comes to him.......Maybe it's a lack of play at SS since the 80s but I like him just fine.

STARTING PITCHERS
Detroit Tigers
RH Michael Fulmer (10-4, 2.58 ERA)

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
LH Brett Oberholtzer (3-2, 5.27 ERA)

Michael Fulmer, Detroit's rookie of the year candidate, gets the start on seven days' rest. He shined against the Angels in a meeting earlier this season, taking a no-hit bid into the seventh on June 1. He finished giving up two hits in 7-plus innings in a 3-0 Detroit win.

--Brett Oberholtzer has appeared in three games, all in relief, since being picked up by the Angels off waivers from the Phillies early this month. He was also used in relief this season in Philadelphia. This will be his first start of 2016.

--Quite a few Tigers are hot right now. But Justin Upton sticks out, compared to his struggles earlier in the season. He's got 10 hits in his last 24 at-bats with four homers and 11 RBI.

In Toledo
In his first rehab stint since hitting the DL earlier this month, Tigers pitcher Jordan Zimmermann went 32/3 innings, allowing just two hits and a walk while recording a strikeout over 39 pitches.

Tigers' Iglesias back in Detroit, will play Saturday

Tigers' Jose Iglesias back in Detroit, will play Saturday

Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias was happy to be back at Comerica Park today. Well, mostly happy.“Absolutely,” he said. “Not happy to (not) be in the lineup, but I’m happy to be back.”That will come Saturday, when he’s activated off the disabled list with a hamstring injury. In a four-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Toledo, Iglesias hit .375 with a home run and a double.“I feel good,” he said. “I feel good enough. Timing is going to come back. ... I hit good and feel good enough to play.”Manager Brad Ausmus was surprised to hear Iglesias wasn’t completely happy with his timing at the plate.“He hit pretty well when he was down there,” Ausmus said. “He wasn’t out that long. He was only out a couple weeks and he’s played four games. I wouldn’t expect him to be too far off.”

Hopefully Iglesias plays well down the stretch. Ausmus should let Aybar start at least a couple of games a week to try and keep Iglesias healthy.

I'd like to see him play well enough to make him a good trade chip this winter. I know a lot of Detroit fans get a little anal about their players and don't want to gamble replacing them. But this off season, the free agent crop is a little lean on talent, and the Tigers have no viable prospects that will bring quality players in return. To improve their pitching, they are going to have to face trading one or two position players....and I don't mean Tyler Collins or Steven Moya. Tigers will have to trade for bullpen and bench strength. IMO, Iglesias could bring a good return.
