Well this series was a disaster

jvs current ERA is right around his career era, 3.5 to 3.4. His whip is too high currently and strike outs per nine are lower but I cant complain about a guy with the talent to throw a no hitter every time he goes out, that has the ability to pitch deep into games consistently, and does not get injured. He had a great april and has had a couple of poor starts in may. Im not sure what more you could ask from a starting pitcher. Its unlikely he goes 25-4 every year. Some of you just like to complain. Does it suck that he gets paid so much? Not for you. They were still going to pay max even with JVS contract, theres no salary cap so it shouldnt matter. The tigers starting pitching has been phenomenal this year even with the hiccups as of late (not just JV). Complain about the pen, I get it. Complain about a starting pitcher thats never injured with an excellent track record and I must ask, what more do you want? Or do you always complain?

Big 'trouble in Chinatown' and if Ausmus doesn't start to manage this team, NO extra play in October. Just throwing your gloves on the field ain't goin' to win. This team needs to play like a team, and that starts with Ausmus. This guy needs to return to his Ivy League playground. Bring in some blue collar coach, like Gibson.

Verlander is not the same anymore
Sherzer is good
Sanchez is good
Smiley is shaky
Porcella is solid
Bull pen has 2 good arms. Closer and set up many
Batters have 4 bats Jacksons, Cabreas, Martinez, and hunter, The rest are streak hitters. Our short stop is the coke of short stops. Cant hit cant field. Hes lucky to get the bat on the ball.
Thats what I see in this team.

Happens every year gandy. While fans should definitely be concerned about the pen, this team is two relievers and a shortstop away from being unstoppable. Hopefully hanrahan is one of those relievers.

Scherzer is great
Sanchez is good
Smyly should be in the pen
Porcello is solid
Pen has one good arm (nathan) who hasnt been all that impressive.
Batters currently are doing great. While vmarts power numbers will slow way down and kinslers OBP will drop, miggy is heating up and the lineup is better than last years.
Romine is actually a very good defender, agree with his offense, but if no offense at SS and C is the tigers biggest concern offensively I am not too worried.

You guys DO remember in 2011, when the Tigers won the Central and went to their first of three consecutive trips to the ALCS, they went through a six-game stretch against the Mets and Giants where the pitching gave up 54 runs? While I am concerned about Verlander's inability to miss bats lately, good teams go through bad stretches over 162 games.

Edit - didn't see Howie's post above when I posted this. It's my only concern regarding the pitching... aside from I'd like to see a stronger pen which I think we all acknowledge.

Catcher avilia isnt reliable, Avlia is a strike out a game playe.

Had Austin made the catch of his life, Smyly would only have given up three homers thru 2 and 2/3rds. Ughhhh, the starting pitching has not been as advertised this past week. (We lost a 1/2game in the standings during that awful week. Just to keep things in perspective.). Be nice to see them get back to form early on in the west coast trip.

I don't think anyone expects this to keep up, but maybe they might not be as good as that 27-12 recorded indicated either.. Right now the SP can't get anyone out and that is a pretty big issue considering that was suppose to be a strength of this team. This team is getting bombed, not just beaten.,.

Verlanders career era and season era are nearly identical

Not really his FIP is but his ERA is actually .6 higher..And his xFIP is a putrid 4.68( on par with that 2008 season).. Btw his K/9 is the lowest of his career at 6.39 since his rookie season.. His BB/9 is almost 4 which is really bad and his WHIP is 1.51 which again is awful.. There are more indicators that Verlander has been mediocre other than his ERA indicates.. Even when it was sub 3, his WHIP was mid 1.3 which indicated he was going to get bombed sooner or later... He needs to step it up..
