I'm hoping they've turned the page on that part of the season cleaves. I know I can hope in one hand and something else in the other. But it's warm, Ajax is at the top of the order, Torii has his 300th out the way, VMart is coming around and Lil' Al is not in the lineup for weeks. I feel really good about where this offense is going. Almost as good as I feel about Drew out of the bullpen. Hope tonight wasn't stretching him out to start. He has too much value to the team (and me in fantasy) is his current role. Adios to the Big Leagues Jake Arrieta.

Well the tigers scored 5 today....so will it be tomorrow or wednesday when we
get shut out or score 1 run?

If this was in the middle of a road trip, I'd say today or tomorrow. But the Tigers average 5.7 runs/gm at home.

Just throwing this out.

A lot of Detroit fans want to see them get Jonathan Papelbon from the Phillies to potentially solve the closer problem. I have always thought he was a little over-rated, but he is the best closer, that might be available, out there. My problem is the contract he would bring with him. He is guaranteed $13mil for 2014 and 2015 and has another $13mil if his contract vest for 2016. That, to me, is excessive. With Scherzer becoming a free agent after 2014....that is $13 mil added on to the contracts of Verlander, Cabrera, Fielder, and Sanchez's total of $90 million for 2015. (And don't forget - contracts for Fister and/or Porcello could be added by then, as well as AJ's arbitration raises).

I know - this is the year to win it all. But if they do come up short....you are pretty much assured of the Illitch family having to shell out $200 mil a year to keep the team competitive in the next two years. If PizzaBoyII buys the farm, you might end up seeing a Marlin-type fire sale in the next 2 or 3 years.

Just my opinion....and I know I will hear, "It's not my money - get Papelbon."

I read the same article iffy.....thing i dont get is the cost of living goes up. We cry about these contracts now....but in another 10-15 years the teams payrolls might be pushing 300 million. Remember when it was big to have a 100 million dollar payroll? Now were talking 200 million. I seen in the article that if we got papelbon we would end up with worth at SS and that 2B prospect at 2nd. And lose either fister or max. As long as they keep winning, and the fans go out and support, they will be OK. the reason the marlins had fire sales is because nobody went to their games. Gotta make money to pay the players. Even the year the marlins won it all with bonilla, they lost money because nobody went to their games in the reg season. Sell out the stadium and we will be fine.

cleaves....my worry actually extends to what the Illitch family might do after the old guy passes on AND/OR what might happen if they do win it all? If PizzaBoyII does get his WS ring...does he lose interest and start to cut costs? Or will his kids say, "Enough dad. You got your WS win...now let's start using baseball money in other ways." Even with fans in the seats...that is no guarantee that profits will go back into the baseball operation. But I guess that is an argument SUPPORTING going for it all now and getting Pabelpon, no matter what the cost.

How about J.J. Putz or Heath Bell for a closer.....Both on the D-backs. Putz coming off the DL soon but Bell has been performing. Do the D-Backs use closer by committee or chose one? They both have ? marks so that's leverage in the trade market.

The pen solution has to found in house or a cheap pick up......can't give up the farm, break the bank and lose the players who need to be resigned.....how many teams have a better record than the Tigers? the Giants when though 8 guys to find a closer last year when Wilson got hurt.....found solution in house.....still early in the season.....

What the hell was that all about? Miggy trying to leg it out, then JL trying to run out there and defend him........Sit your old ass on the bench, that was Miggys choice and he got thrown out.......Maybe a heart attack would do him some good running out there.

It just tells me the players run the game and Coaches and even Managers are below them.....JL knows it. It showed by him running out on the field......Trying to save face. It had nothing to do with the play, just trying to save face......Ego is a dangerous thing.

if a trade for a closer is made it will probably be for a guy in his walk year. The Granderson trade/payroll reduction came after 2008 when Illitch had to write a check to MLB for going over the luxury tax . My guess is even with the extra 25 mil coming next season that the Tigers will not go over the 170 mil point and subsidize the A's/Royals/Pirates/Rays.

tigers comp pick (part of the miami trade) texas longhorns closer (most saves since Houston street) is signed and will be pitching short season ball in the NY pen league. Have a hard team believing you invest basically a first round pick on a closer with Rondon also at AAA and get a guy like Papelbon who is signed for several more years.

This should sting ole JVs and JLs ego......A minor leaguer making your CY young MVP look like Ian Kennedy.

JV needs a stint on the DL......Starting to look like Bonderman of old out there.

That's right boys, I said it. Don't let the reputation fool you. He doesn't look that good.

DL is fancy talk for a rest.

Don't see JL running out there to defend Tui on the same play.........I guess only for Miggy will he get his old ass out of the dugout to defend a play.

Leyland is a bum.

The Verlander defenders will be working overtime to explain this one. ERA 3.75 and a WHIP of 1.35. Keep repeating the 'JV is the best' mantra.

If you think for a second that Miggy listened to the 1B coach then you need to learn the game...He did what he wanted too....Making 200 mil gives him the right to do what he wants. JL is basically acting like a grandfather to him.

Yes, I saw that little league shit, and I also so the 1B coach and JL act like Mad Parents when he got thrown out......This isn't little league and fans don't pay to see it.
