I will probably catch flak for this as well but i am still not a fan of the
jacob turner for anibal sanchez deal.

LONG way to go to know if it will be a Doyle Alexander-John Smoltz kind of deal. Turner is doing well first time or two through the NL. When teams have more time to look at video and prepare for him, will that change? Don't know.

With the Tigers in win-now mode and still with much of their roster 30 or younger, they have time to re-stock Jacob Turner-types over the next few years. The Marlins are in win-in-2016 mode. So the deal was good for both sides, IMO.

Well i dont think turner is a shoo in for the HOF. I just think the trade followed by the huge money thrown sanchezs way was alot for a guy whos career era wasnt THAT impressive howie.

I think you are undersellimg turner i think he can be a good #1.

Funny thing is.. he has no where near the talent of that Fernandez kid the marlins have.. that kid is a absolute stud... Turner and Fernadez is a scary good young duo.. and they have eovoldi at under 23 and a solid mlb starter, to go with alverez, who they got from the blue jays.. who is also under 23... The marlins 5th starter right now is 24 (koehler) and is not bad either... I love watching teams like the marlins, rays, and a's work. Their front offices are amazing at building with no money.. scouts are amazing.. development is crazy good... if the tigers had the minor league development of the marlins or rays with the tigers payroll.. WOW.

You drafted matt nokes because hes awesome, i remember i sent in his rookie card to get autographed and was the first one i ever landed. I dont know about the scholastic books i would just make lists and rate the players by position and robbie alomar was always at the top of my 2b.

I wrote Tram and Nokes at the same time in say 87 or 88. I got Trams back waaaay before Nokes. But both of them signed, and sent little notes. I hope guys still do that stuff for kids. It was cool just to get mail, never mind when it was from a ballplayer. Frank Thomas had a little club he wanted me to join, i couldnt do it. I liked him a lot, but i couldnt get messed up in that SouthSide business. Conned my parents into trips to Riverfront, Wrigley and old Busch back when Nokes was a Rockie, basically to get more of his autographs and bad sunburns. Hahahaha

I actually like santiago.. but he is like picking on the smallest guy on the playground.. he does his job.. and wont be back next year... over 30 career utility players are what they are..

padres traditionally want way more than they will get for their players. Houston street last season I believed was rumored to be moving and ended up staying. The problem is the extra wild card has brought way too many buyers and too few sellers. Deadline needs to go to Aug 15 and eliminate the waiver deal fiasco. According an intervies with DD all his calls about middle relievers yielded teams asking for one of Garcia/Nick/Smyly or Rondon.

I agree, I wasn't a fan of the $15 mill/season deal for Sanchez. But the guy has been damn good this season, considering the crummy run support.

people forget.. tigers can put the draft pick comp on guys like infante, peralta and benoit... and keep other teams away from them while trying to resign them at reasonable prices... I doubt they use it on all three.. but benoit will get it for sure if he keeps up what he is doing.. I could care less if peralta comes back.. and omar will most likely stay.. but if he goes.. perez is looking to be a capable replacement at worst. Tigers also have danny worth (should be dfa'd) eugene suarez ( still to raw but a good prospect), and a guy in the low minors devon travis that is hitting .380 in single a ball. All these guys could play ss or 2nd base... If the tigers sign infante to a 2 or 3 yr deal, they can either try to fill the ss hole through trade or with perez.. and I would be fine with it. Perez is 100 times better on defense.

Infante can't be a bringing a 1st rounder in compensation can he? Peralta better hope his sentance comes down soon, so he can get it out of the way this year. Of he might be missing out on millions. I don't see people getting inline to wait for JPs services until next June.

I think Garcia will have a better career than Costallenos... Garcia is far more advanced on defense.. and has better speed. Costallenos hasn't been up against major league pitching yet either.. garcia has.. and has shown he can hit it. If the tigers played Garcia every day.. I think he is a .275-.300 hitter with 15-20 hr power... People compare him to miggy.. but i think that torii hunter is a better comparison.. solid defender that can drive in a run or get on base.. You dont get rid of that kind of talent for a middle reliever.. or a closer for that matter... Only way you trade a Costallenos or Garcia is for a starter or fielder. Relievers are worth about what we gave up for Veras.. a 19 yr old with potential that hasn't shown it yet.. a lotto ticket if you will.

Infante is a former all star that hits close to .300 every year... Tigers fans obviously were not watching Omar tear it up in the NL before returning to the tigers... He might not be worth 13 mil offer to get draft pick comp... but i pay 13 mil for one yr of omar before i do it for peralta... and peralta would be in line for it were it not for the roids thing going on... peralta hit well when he came from cle.. then sucked.. now he is hitting again when motivated my his contract... i dont want the guy no matter what happens.. he is a fat ass that cant range at ss at all.. costing guys like porcello and fister... the starting rotation will be happy if the tigers can get a ss that hits AND plays d.

lets remember the FA compensation has been changed. To get a pick the Tigers would have to submit a qualifying offer equal to the average of the top 125 players which last season was 13.5 Mil. So the Tigers would have to offer benoit/jhonny and Infate around 14 mil each. Any teams that sign them would then forfeit a first round pick. neither of those players IMO are worth 14 mil nor would a team give up a first round pick either,

Leyland is one of the best managers in baseball right now.. and a possible HOFer if he gets another ring. Most fans cry about the manager.. nobody is immune... Joe Torre won countless rings... and he got ran out of town... Gardy in Minnesota used to be a god there.. I remember people calling the Angels manager a magician...
Tigers wants could have Gibby walk into the managers office next year and they would be complaining about him in no time too... its an odd thing in sports.. rarely do coaches get the respect they deserve. If the team wins.. its because of the players.. if the teams lose.. its because of the coaches.. odd.. but true... I think Leyland is not perfect.. but I dont see many managers that are available that are much better.. and the fact he restored the winning to Detroit when I had to watch the tigers suck for more than a decade before him... I respect the guy and keep my complaining to a minimum.

last season players who netted a comp pick were Swisher, Upton, Bourne, Soriano, Loshe and Hamilton. None of our pending FA's are in that class. Not even close.

Gonna disagree here MV. The only reason the Tigers sucked for that decade you speak of is because there wasn't a CAP in the NHL. So Ilitch spent his money on the Red Wings and brought us Stanley Cups. When the NHL Cap was put in place, Ilitch moved his money to the Tigers and therefore were having success. It's about the Players and Money not about that old fart behind the bench.

LOL. I have said that dozens of times. But Iffy knows shit. (So I am told, over and over). MV....hating Leyland and Lamont is Muzz's schtick here. Don't take it away.
