lets remember the FA compensation has been changed. To get a pick the Tigers would have to submit a qualifying offer equal to the average of the top 125 players which last season was 13.5 Mil. So the Tigers would have to offer benoit/jhonny and Infate around 14 mil each. Any teams that sign them would then forfeit a first round pick. neither of those players IMO are worth 14 mil nor would a team give up a first round pick either,

All they have to do if offer it.. Benoit would get more than 13.5 mil on the open market on a 2 or 3 year deal.. so odds are.. he would not take the offer.. same with Peralta.. he would get more than 13.5 over a 2-5 yr deal as well... omar is probably a 3-4 mil a year player at this point.. You have to remember.. baseball contracts are guaranteed.. so the value of the contract is what matters.. nobody is taking 13.5 for 1 year if they can get 15-18 mil for 3 years.. which is a realistic figure for benoit seeing his current contract and his current level of play. Name a ss that has better stats than peralta.. and look up his pay.. peralta is a 5-6 mil a yr player so all it would take is a 3 year contract to get him over the 13.5 level.. you have to think money.. are the three guys worth 13.5 mil a yr? NO.. was swisher? NO.. was Lohrse? NO... but is if a guy like Torii Hunter is worth 12 mil a yr.. Peralta is worth 5 or 6.. which is what he makes now..

last season players who netted a comp pick were Swisher, Upton, Bourne, Soriano, Loshe and Hamilton. None of our pending FA's are in that class. Not even close.

Peralta and Benoit are not in swisher's class? Or Bourn? Seriously? I question that greatly.. when both are currently making around 6 mil a yr.. and both will be looking for 3 yr deals at least.. that is 18mil guaranteed... they are in the realm of the comp pick bro.

Gonna disagree here MV. The only reason the Tigers sucked for that decade you speak of is because there wasn't a CAP in the NHL. So Ilitch spent his money on the Red Wings and brought us Stanley Cups. When the NHL Cap was put in place, Ilitch moved his money to the Tigers and therefore were having success. It's about the Players and Money not about that old fart behind the bench.

I want you to think about something for a second.. Leyland has went to the ws with the Pirates, Marlins, and Tigers.. I love my tigers.. but seriously... its not like leyland took the yankees to the ws... He is a good manager.. I want to repeat something.. he TOOK THE PIRATES TO THE WS... AND WON ONE IN MIAMI!

That should tell you something. The AL is a different animal. I don't see him calling for a guy to steal. Wonder why?

We have guys that can steal bases. Austin Jackson has the speed to steal, JL will never run him because of who's on the plate after him. He still doesn't learn you can play small ball in the AL too.

benoit making 5.5 mil not really getting 15 mil, jhonny making 6 mil and the ped situation not likely to get 15 mil offer either.jhonny can hit, but no range. Benoit with 23 career saves is a setup guy, who could be a closer. But 15 mil for these guys?

Infante is a former all star that hits close to .300 every year... Tigers fans obviously were not watching Omar tear it up in the NL before returning to the tigers... He might not be worth 13 mil offer to get draft pick comp... but i pay 13 mil for one yr of omar before i do it for peralta... and peralta would be in line for it were it not for the roids thing going on... peralta hit well when he came from cle.. then sucked.. now he is hitting again when motivated my his contract... i dont want the guy no matter what happens.. he is a fat ass that cant range at ss at all.. costing guys like porcello and fister... the starting rotation will be happy if the tigers can get a ss that hits AND plays d.

Omar got a two year eight million dollar deal last time. And he's only gotten older. I don't mean to be disrespectful to him, but from my biased Tiger fan point of view, Inge and Avila were AllStars once as well. And they both are terrible. So, personally, I don't put a lot into Omar's BA. As its really his only endearing statistic. With you Jay Honny though, despite my baby steps. I sort of welcome the suspension to be honest. If Omar were back I would completely. And I wouldn't be afraid to put him at short.

The comparisons between garcia and cabby end at venezuelan detroit tiger. Garcia could very well be a decent player but at this point he lacks the self control necessary to be an every day big leaguer.

Yeah infante is a better player than he was last time he was in detroit but thats about it. Also santiago had some decent years as a utility player but i wouldnt count this year as one.

Jhonny can hit on peds, his defense is awful, i would rather see a jimmschwartz statue out there. He wont be back next year and then the tigers can address that.

You might want to see what Benoits last contract was.. 3 yrs.. 16.5 mil.. You think he will get more now that he has shown he can close? Even if he gets the same.... its still more than 15 mil... And Peralta will get more than 15 mil bro.. Mekly Cabrera got 12mil for 2 yrs.. peralta will get at least a 3 yr contracts.. and i doubt he will get paid less than 5 a year.. so.. basically.. 13.5 mil qualifying offer is not that crazy.. like i said.. Nick Swisher got it last year... and he is trash.. Soriano... is basically Benoit.. a set up man that had a little closer experience.. look it up.. its facts...

You watch Tigers games vice? Cuz Leyland ain't exactly the driving factor for this Tigers team. And we basically are the Yankees nowadays anyway. I love how the Rockies part of his career always gets concurrently left out we people talk him up.

Well muzz when you have the venezuelan god batting behind jackson i can see how jl doesnt have him run much. Also beyond jackson the tigers are a pretty slow footed team. My only beef with jl is how he handles the pen and sometimes gets stuck on certain players but as a manager hes better than most and definitely better than any available option.

Benoits last contract was 3years - $16.5. 5.75 a year is high for a setup guy....

Self control? What are you talking about? The only reason he was not the every day OFer was because he is 22 and has Jackson and Hunter blocking him at CF and RF and Dirks is a lefty... if Garcia batted lefty.. he would be up not dirks.. I have no idea why you are so down on the guy.. but clearly you haven't watched him play and do not realize he is only 22. The self control thing? no idea what you are talking about there.

if benoit ends the season as the closer. he will get at least that much on his next contract.. that is my point. He is worth the 13.5 qual offer for a draft pick.. tigers will resign him anyways.. so mute point... same with omar.. only guy i see leaving out of the three is peralta.

Red Wings were the hockey version. Sadly, Tigers are the baseball version basically now. We trade every young guy we can for guys who can and will produce now. And give up our picks for guys like Valverde. It works, until high price old guys get hurt and your cupboard is bare.
