lets remember the FA compensation has been changed. To get a pick the Tigers would have to submit a qualifying offer equal to the average of the top 125 players which last season was 13.5 Mil. So the Tigers would have to offer benoit/jhonny and Infate around 14 mil each. Any teams that sign them would then forfeit a first round pick. neither of those players IMO are worth 14 mil nor would a team give up a first round pick either,
All they have to do if offer it.. Benoit would get more than 13.5 mil on the open market on a 2 or 3 year deal.. so odds are.. he would not take the offer.. same with Peralta.. he would get more than 13.5 over a 2-5 yr deal as well... omar is probably a 3-4 mil a year player at this point.. You have to remember.. baseball contracts are guaranteed.. so the value of the contract is what matters.. nobody is taking 13.5 for 1 year if they can get 15-18 mil for 3 years.. which is a realistic figure for benoit seeing his current contract and his current level of play. Name a ss that has better stats than peralta.. and look up his pay.. peralta is a 5-6 mil a yr player so all it would take is a 3 year contract to get him over the 13.5 level.. you have to think money.. are the three guys worth 13.5 mil a yr? NO.. was swisher? NO.. was Lohrse? NO... but is if a guy like Torii Hunter is worth 12 mil a yr.. Peralta is worth 5 or 6.. which is what he makes now..
