Last night restored my faith in the hockey Gods. A broken play deflection off a skate from the blue line?

Yes. They made it right.

Now Walkom needs to be fired.

I doubt we will see Walkom officiate another game this post-season. I don't know if he will be fired, but as you know he used to be a ref, then he became director of NHL officiating, then a few years ago he became a ref again.

He may be encouraged to look for a new position (or the league may create a new position for him).

The league will never publicly fire him. But I am hoping for an announcement that he wants to spend more time with his kids in the next week or so.

Epic series. Hawks are the better team right now (though not by much). Hawks deserved it after that unfortunate call.

Nope. NHL said Walkom had the RIGHT call and he will be officiating in the Conference Finals. Good luck with that one.

I thought the cancellation call that lead to the no goal before OT was a very lucky break by the wings(if anything it should have been a call against Quincey). But I do believe the ref made the right call for what he thought the play should have been according the the rule book... even though he screwed over the Hawks(who eventually won anyways). For 2 canceling penalties the play should be blown dead right away, regardless of what happens after the play... EVEN THOUGH like i said, I think the wings(Quincey if anything) should have been the only one called for that play, even though the hawks did throw a punch in there...which is maybe why the ref called what he did? Either way we caught a break and lost in OT. Much deserved and well fought win by the Hawks tonight.

Even though Zetterberg scored a goal, I thought that Z/Dats/Franzen were relatively too quiet in game 7, where it might have cost them the game. I was drinking, but hardly saw any of them make an impact in the game(at least offensively). Maybe credit to the hawks... or they just couldn't sustain to carry the team after a great end of the season for all 3.

I agree that if he perceived what was happening to be coincidental penalties then he should call it regardless of what was happening elsewhere. My problem is this, calling what Saad did a penalty is a huge stretch. Guys do much worse than that in front of officials and get away with it all the time. Secondly, why wasn't he going to call a penalty on Quincy until Saad performed the mildest of retaliations? It seems he wasn't calling it by the rulebook and he was refereeing to the situation afterall. He just didn't fully realize what the situation was. He didn't want to put the Wings down a man so he wasn't going to call Quincy for roughing until Saad gave him the opportunity to call coincidental minors, which as previously stated was a massive stretch.
