Heim just went on the IL for the Rangers...wonder if they'd be interested in Joey Bart?
Just to introduce some out-of-the-box thinking…

Maybe we could get more for Sabol?

Why would the Rangers be sellers though?

Saw this on the ESPN page. Really hope FZ has more in mind than this

Will Giants get infield help from Braves or Royals? The San Francisco Giants are looking for middle infield help, particularly one that comes with a steady glove. Atlanta Braves shortstop Vaughn Grissom and Kansas City Royals infielder Nicky Lopez have been connected to the Giants by industry sources. Giants catcher Joey Bart (out of options next year, probably needs a change of scenery) appears to be available, but Kansas City and Atlanta seem flush with catching so that likely wouldn't be a fit. -- Kiley McDaniel

Neither of those players are any better than what we got. Actually Grissom would work ok, not exactly a needle mover but an upgrade. Lopez no thanks.

Some smoke that the Giants are looking at Verlander
If it doesn’t cost a real piece, I am OK with it. Nothing more than, say, Roupp. And even he may be too expensive, assuming we will be taking on the entire contract.

Do we prioritize a bat (Anderson? Bellinger?) or an arm (Paxton? Verlander?)?

This makes some sense. The Mutts want to clear up their books for Shoheipalooza. I'd rather have him than Scherzer.
Problem is so are about 5 other teams

I doubt we'd take on the whole contract.
Rangers took on less than half of Scherzer's

That said, we can afford it and taking on more gets him cheaper, or gets us in front of the other suitors

It is usually a good idea to go against the flow. With so many teams bending over backwards to be in the Shohei discussion, it is probably a good idea to lean into that and take on other team’s salaries. Seems like it is a market sweet spot atm…

Kinda figured, that makes sense

The cupboard is getting bare FZ...
There are plenty of SP options left, starting with Monty in STL.

The question is: are we willing to give up Bart and Wisenhunt or something equivalent?

Per the cubs, they aren't dealing Bellinger.

Also, Verlander on his way back to Houston.
Yeah just saw that, makes sense the Cubs are surging and probably want to shoot for a wild card spot.
