The Grizzlies appear ready to move forward and hire Dave Joerger.

Joerger was the defensive coordinator on Lionel Hollins' staff.

Joerger is certainly good at what he does, but what does this move say about the Grizzlies organization? If Hollins did well enough that they would elevate his assistant, why not keep status quo? Pinching pennies rarely pays off.

:L at Memphis.

Sounds to me they thought they could get a big time coach, quickly found out they couldn't and said, "damn well Lionel was actually pretty good, but now we cant get him back, so lets go for his assistant."

another great example of owners dropping NBA balls.

We can chalk this up to inexperience for now but for an older more experienced owner this would be incompetence.

Young first time owner and a GM responsible for the worst decade in Celtics history who has also never been a coach or player in the NBA.

You know come the next CBA, Memphis' owner and GM will be bitching about all these other teams winning and that the salary cap needs to go down more.

Owners are 100% at fault for the financial issues in the NBA. It makes me sick when people try to blame players. Owners make bad deals and then try to push for a new deal when they aren't making enough money. Make better business decisions and the CBA will work just fine for you.

I have mentioned this before but the NBA (and a lot of pro sports) is business for people who are incompetent but good at exploitation. They keep expanding because every one with a dollar can make money as a business person in the NBA.

The NBA offers kids a way out of poor situations and blinds them with millions of dollars when the Owners are making billions off of showcasing glorified prize fights. When people still thought they called this exploitation.

Disgusting really.

It wasn't so much a money issue as a philosophy issue. Memphis management is all in on analytics. Hollins thinks its mostly bullshit and his coaching doesn't need to be enhanced by it. Neither one were willing to budge, so Memphis let Hollins walk.

Now that makes sense.

All sorts of this.

The Grizzlies had 3 problems with getting a good coach:

1. The team loved Hollins.
2. Memphis' 'Grindhouse' window is closing. And by that, I mean Zbo.

-and-

3. San Antonio really exploited Hollins' big weakness. You need the 3pt shot in today's game for bigs to be effective against playoff defenses.

Was that Hollins' weakness? Or a roster limitation? Not sure you can pin the team's inability to shoot on the coach.
