They could do a lot worse.

Dantonio really fell off the ledge in the last 4 seasons. Despite a miracle comeback in 2015, he still had a losing record vs. Harbaugh.

I just don't understand the plan here. Even if Luke Fickell comes; what is he going to take his whole staff? Ignore the entire class that he just signed? Accept the Dantonio garbage class that he just didn't have a part in signing? Why would fickell do that?

Yeah, I felt like he had jumped the shark, and I really didn't fear him like I did prior to Harbaugh. He really knew how to get the most out of 2* and 3* kids, but the past few years he seems to have faded.

Heck of a career, and I wish the worst on MSU in picking his replacement.

Ummm doesn’t pretty much every head coach do that when they are hired in January?

They will probably name an "interim" coach for the coming season, while they do some shopping around. If whoever they hire/promote does a good enough job, they may make him their permanent coach come November or December.

I don't think Fickell is gonna go. He just brought in a legit elite recruit at QB, has brought in some really nice high-end transfers, and is on the path to possibly becoming another Boise State. This would be a reclamation project for a guy who has it made right now. Better offers could be coming in the not-so-distant future.

Narduzzi would make more sense. He seems to be in a rut at Pitt, and he obviously has a stronger tie to MSU than Fickell.

If the timing of his retirement wasn’t so bad — I could see Fickell taking the job. Dantonio really screwed over the next coach coming in.

With Fickell’s ties to Ohio — he’d be a great hire for MSU, as they find many of their players from that state. MSU would be a step up and much easier to sell to recruits than Cincy.
