His teams lost in the conference finals that was to the laker teams I believe

The conference finals is as far as they got -although the cheap shot by Robert Horry most likely cost them that championship

Don't think it was ever dantoni's decision. Probably lakers gave him choice to save a little face and step down vs being fired. Brian shaw is my #1 candidate although low chances since he's already a coach. Possibly Jeff van Gundy. There's not a whole lot out there

D'antoni wanted the Lakers to pick up the option for the last year to show their confidence in him as head coach - didn't happen - so he resigned

Interested to see what coach they bring in. They need someone who can patiently rebuild the team and be given the time

Did he run away from the mess or did the mess think he caused it?

Good luck to Mike D'Antoni as he returns to his old job as Cy Tolliver on Deadwood.

Best news I've heard all day long - now the Lakers can re-sign Gasol, get a top nine draft pick at the very worst and sign a big market free agent to be in the hunt. The question is who will be the head coach

Byron Scott - He groomed Chris Paul and did good things for New Orleans - definitely would be a good choice

Michael Cooper - coached the Sparks and won games and championships - has good back ground in the NBA, but might be a bit older

Derek Fisher - I don't like this choice at all, but it is out there

But what about your boy Kurt Rambis?

You said he would be a good candidate for the NYK head coaching job but you don't feel the same about him for the Lakers??

If short buss has anything to do with the selection process, the Lakers are already screwed.

Not shedding tears after the announcement.....Magic got it right especially when he criticized D'Antoni's knack for not deploying a shred of defense, a lay-up drill is what Magic correctly called our teams' defense. And Magic has earned the right to say what he feels.

Love Byron, Fisher, Van Gundy, and Rambis in that order as next HC.

I'd let Magic choose the next coach so we don't have to hear him constantly crying to the media about the HC.

I think he forgets how tough it is considering he went 5-11 as the coach of the Lakers and then resigned that off-season.

Yea Jim Doors. For a dude who had such an illustrious career and a number of championships, his recent comments are fast painting him as becoming a tampax-wearing whiny little girl of sorts. It's almost like: "Dude, what crawled up your vagina". Go join Ophra. She wants to prove she has a penis and a set of balls too!!

I think Vlade Divac would be an awesome Lakers head coach.

He has a job RobToxin. He lives in his native Croatia and is the official Lakers scout for Europe.

I'm hoping the Lakers bring in some fresh head coaching blood, like a Kevin Ollie. No more of these old retreads. Maybe B. Scott, but that's about it.

Would Phil have took the Knicks job, if he knew the Lakers HC position would be open?

I love Magic, but he needs to STFU!! He is coming off as a complete hypocrite. When the Lakers made the deals that brought Dwight and Nash, he was gushing about what a great deal it was and how it instantly made the Lakers favorites.

When it didn't work out, he trashed Lakers management for what a stupid move they made. Cookie or somebody needs to make him delete his Twitter account because he's killing his own credibility.

How about Vogel, Brooks, or Jackson?

They could be available before the day ends.
