1st sign he's breaking down
He had a great season and still healthier than Embiid who is younger. Played a career high 76 games, something Embiid can only dream of.

LOL.

He should have saved some games for next year.

Hurley has said the NBA is a dream. If he leaves Uconn it’s for an elite NBA job for triple the money.

Wonder if he waits to see if Celts lose and maybe Boston comes open.

He would 100% bail for a big time east coast NBA job.

Yeah, I do think the west coast fit is less ideal here. Knicks is probably his wet dream, based on where he grew up.

Not a done deal yet as everything reads like they are still talking. Hurley just informed his player today that he's "talking" to the Lakers, not "leaving". But I assume the Lakers are just gonna keep making Godfather offers until he says yes.

I like this move better than going after Redick (yay! We keep a great analyst on TV!) but I'm still a bit cautious here. The track record of college coaches to the NBA isn't all that much better than guys from the booth straight to HC spot. Stevens was good and Donovan has been ok, but the rest? Ooof. But Hurley is really smart and creative tactically so that helps concerns. Similar to Redick though, you're still gonna have to go above and beyond with the staff. He's gonna need experience on staff to help navigate all the things that come with NBA locker rooms. Get him a guy that's been a HC before like a Borrego, Brooks, or SVG and then some assistants that have been players.

As for Hurley, if he really wants to coach in the NBA, now's the time to make the move. I'm not saying it just because its the Lakers, I'd say the same thing if someone like Detroit offered too. His value is never higher. College sports is in flux right now. He could go to the NBA and be a total flop but he'd be able to make a TON of cash and still be able to pick any college he wanted down the road and also the collegiate game should be more settled with NIL/revenues/etc a couple of years from now. There's no bad downside no matter what he chooses.

Reddick is very lucky. This lakers team is not where you want to break in your career in coaching. Hurley is going to grab some money and in two three season will be back coaching a collegiate program a richer man.

First of all there's too many of of Lakers fans dammit!

Now my question. Is it a good thing or a bad thing that I really like the idea of your team hiring a HC with zero NBA coaching experience?

If he does get the job I'd say good luck, but I wouldn't mean it. :heh:

He has experience....but as a college coach.

His game I believe will translate to the NBA nicely... IF he is hired. Players (yes I know it was in college) loved him. NBA players might actually respect him

So did John Beilein when he left that whore ann arbor and took the Cavs job.

Lakers have hired too many former players without any head coaching experience - Luke Walton and Darvin Ham for example. I like J.J but he would be just that again.

Trying to think of any college coaches besides the GOAT to have big success in the NBA.

Recruiting is so much a part of college that I guess it's hard to translate to success with grownup pros.

Make me Lakers GM for the season and I promise to trade away all the talent for very little in return in hopes they go 2-80. :D

BC head coach took an nfl coordinator job because this portal and nil bullshit is so awful
The big one was Saban retiring, he didn't want to deal with that either
