So 1 year of success = Pay me NOW?

Why not? One hit and it could be all over for him. I'd do the same thing. 24 years old with his talent? Somebody will trade for him and give him more than the 1.3 or whatever it is he's due next season.

I'd trade him then or just let him sit pushing back his free agency a year.

lol didn't even play the full season, and his stats weren't THAT good. All their runningbacks actually performed pretty well last year.

I'd have to imagine the Minny front office will tell him to pound sand and let him walk. Minny fans will naturally call the white owner racist and probably start rioting again.

I am cool with this hold out during preseason. he is on his last year of his contract. Work on a deal I would say to both sides.
However if he holds out during the season. Screw him. make him play at least the min. games & if so fran tag him (if they want to) the next year while planning for your next RB.

Without a new deal he'd be taking a risk playing more than the minimum number of games. Better to play 6 games and get to free agency or a franchise tag than be macho, get injured, and end up with next to nothing.

He'd better be prepared for a long hold out because this will be the toughest ever year to negotiate in. 5 months ago the prediction was for a 20% rise in the 2021 cap. Now people are talking about a possible 20% cut. I expect to see some short extensions that pay good money in 2020, 'near' tag money in 2021, (all guaranteed), and then void in 2022.

This guy better know what he is doing or he will play himself into Melvin Gordons mess. Players do not seem to understand what gets you money in the NFL is having/building good relationships everywhere you go. Holding out asking for more money I guarantee you owners/GMs from other teams are already crossing him off their list if he was ever a free agent. Frank Gore till this day is working as a washed running back I am sure because everywhere he goes people have nothing but great things to say about him. He shows up to work on time, always does what is asked him of him and is someone in general you want in your locker room.

He's only started an average of 9 games a year in his career.
He's a very good RB, but teams don't need to pay RB's big money.
Lots of free agent RB's after this season.

Henry, Drake, Fournette, Gurley, Mack, Coleman, Breida, Hunt, Burkhead, Peterson, Yeldon, Cook, Mixon, Abdullah, Booker, Kamara, Conner, Williams, Gore, Lindsay and many more. Also a decent draft class.

Pass... Great player, but not worth the long term investment. Don't blame him for wanting to cash in now. Strike while the iron's hot, and for RBs its only hot for a few seconds.
