Real bad timing for him to try this. Let's see if he stands his ground or realizes he isn't getting what he wants and caves. As important as he was to Minny's success last year, he isn't likely to be rewarded for this and he hasn't been healthy enough either.

At this point, everyone might be "sitting out" this year.

Have another good year then maybe but I agree with whoever said, "Look at Gordon"

Probably not a great idea to bring up David Johnsons pay as that turned out to be a bad move by the Cardinals.

"David Johnson -- traded this offseason to Houston -- makes $13 million per year, and Cook wants to match if not surpass that total".

I think teams will look at the Gurley and Zeek contracts, and how not SD not paying Gordon worked out and force RB contracts to stay low.

Without a new deal he'd be taking a risk playing more than the minimum number of games. Better to play 6 games and get to free agency or a franchise tag than be macho, get injured, and end up with next to nothing.
Is this really how far we have bent the players way that we now are calling it "macho" to play out your existing contract? Maybe we should just let the players pick their own salary and which games they want to play...

NFL needs to change the length of a rookie contract from 4 to 3 with a 4th year option... If team's choose the 4th year option, then the player gets a large bonus/incentives of some sort... Or this is going to spiral out of control... They need to add some language in there w/ stiffer penalties as well if they don't honor their contract...

It reflects the growing disparity between star player money and rookie pay for a 4th year player with a very short career life expectancy. What's the upside? Be like Dak Prescott? Play out your 4th year and still get tagged? The down side is he gets hurt like Teddy Bridgewater and starts again from nothing. As QBs those 2 could play for another 10+ years. Cook probably only has 4 good years left in him at RB.

All jobs have risk. Stay home and you don't get any money. How is that better? And owners don't want to be stuck with a $50M cap hit for a guy that can't play or stinks. So every guy that outperforms his contract sits home and there are no games or half the team is cut to afford the half that want more money.

If we all use the outliers to make our decisions none of us will ever leave the house and the NFL salary cap will need to double.

Don't pay him, let him sit a year then get rid of him.
Another average rb trying to hold a team ransom.

Nothing new here. It was a 4 year contract with 2 years guaranteed and no renegotiation allowed until after the 3rd year. If Cook had sucked for 2 years he would have been gone. Instead he's a star and he wants to renegotiate after year 3. The Vikings can renegotiate, cut him, trade him, or play hard ball. The CBA that allows the Vikings to play hard ball allows Cook to play X amount of games and call it a year. Complaints about the CBA should be sent to NFL headquarters. Lots of teams are going to be in awkward positions with players on the last year of their contracts, (49ers - Kittle, Rams - Kupp). It's up to GMs to sort it out.

No point comparing the NFL to 'normal' jobs in society.

good luck:suds:

SPN's Courtney Cronin reports holdout Dalvin Cook would "gladly" take an offer in the $13 million-per-year range.
The initial figure reportedly proposed by Cook's camp was close to $16 million annually (similar to Christian McCaffrey's recent extension), but that side has recently dropped their number to just under $15 million. It's still far removed from the Vikings' initial offer of $10 million per year. As Cronin points out, Minnesota signed Stefon Diggs, Xavier Rhodes, Everson Griffen and Linval Joseph to extensions on the eve of camp in recent years, so all hope is not lost. But Cook remains prepared to sit out the season and avoid playing during the final year of his rookie deal — a transgression that would cause the 24-year-old to become a restricted free agent (rather than unrestricted) after the 2020 season. Buckle up

My guess is he will not hold out once the real games start or he screws himself because of the new player agreement

Dalvin Cook holdout would be 'virtually prohibitive' for RB

Dalvin Cook holdout would be 'virtually prohibitive' for RB

We've heard this tale before. Just last year, Ezekiel Elliott spent plenty of time away from the Dallas Cowboys during their camp before a new deal finally brought him back in time for the 2019 season.

But that was under the old CBA. This current CBA seriously discourages a player from entering such a holdout, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, because it can directly affect a player's ability to reach unrestricted free agency.

"The new collective bargaining agreement makes it virtually prohibitive for a player in Cook's position to actually carry out a holdout," Pelissero explained Tuesday on NFL NOW. "If Dalvin Cook does not report on the mandatory reporting date next month with his teammates, or at any point thereafter does not fulfill his contract for any material period of time, he would not accrue the fourth season he needs to become an unrestricted free agent next March. Instead, Cook would be a restricted free agent, meaning the Vikings could retain him with a first-round restricted tender worth between $4 [million] and $5 million instead of having to apply a franchise tag that would be worth roughly double that."
