Both Tyson and Monta injured within the first 4 minutes of the game and both doubtful to return. This game should have been an easy win against a Clippers team without Blake Griffin and playing on the 2nd night of a back-to-back after getting blown out by OKC.

Still no excuse for them allowing almost 70 points in one half. Show some pride and effort and play some defense. Chris Paul going off, I could understand. But allowing Austin Rivers, Hedo Turkoglu, JJ Redick, and Spencer Hawes to combine for 25 points is inexcusable. Those are scoring options 5-8 for the Clippers. You can't let the stars go off for big points AND the scrub reserves. Pick a strategy and stick with it. Either double/triple team Paul and make the spares beat you, or let Paul get his numbers but don't allow the bench guys and supporting cast big points.

I realize the Mavs don't have the greatest defenders in the world, especially with Tyson and Rajon out, but a lot of the points they give up are due to sheer laziness and not even trying on the defensive end. They just fall into this mindset of "oh well, we'll just outscore them". And it doesn't work against good teams. That's a big reason why they're 3-12 against West playoff teams.

Yep. Once Tyson and Monta went down, it was forfeit city.

This team has no backbone at all. Tyson Chandler, a coasting Dirk, and a bunch of mental midgets.

Actually, they have backbone, but only in very selective spots. Beating Memphis on the road in a very determined effort was one example. The last 2 minutes of the 4th and then OT against Portland is another example. When they gnash their teeth and actually TRY they can be quite dominating. But sadly they're too often on cruise control or just flat-out quit mode.

I'm hoping they're just saving it all for the playoffs.

They certainly don't turn it up night in and night out and leave it all on the floor

The Mavs are annoying. No excuse for this kind of performance even without Chandler.

You keep beating me to the punch with your posts. I just watched the end of the game and came here to post that a 5-point win at home against Utah even without Chandler is pretty sad. At least Dirk decided he wanted to rebound the ball tonight. But JJ Barea cannot be your leading scorer. Ever. You've got serious problems if he is your main source of offense. Ellis and Parsons were a combined 3 for 17. Awful. And they've just got too many useless scrubs on their roster. Powell, Felton, Ledo, Smith, and Jefferson are just worthless. Harris and Barea are very inconsistent. And Charlie V adds some scoring here and there but can't really be counted on for a whole lot else.

They've just got too many guys who serve no purpose. The 2011 team at least had a 3-point specialist in Peja and a rugged perimeter defender in Stevenson. These Mavs have 5 really great starting players and then a whole lot of scrubs. I wonder how Atlanta wins so many games with so little star power, and then I see their box scores and notice that they get double-digit scoring from 5 or 6 guys per game as well as solid assist and rebound numbers from many players. Dallas has 3-4 guys who do all of the work and then just a bunch of guys who contribute nothing.

The end of that one was ugly, almost let the Jazz come back. Inexcusable!

I give Ellis an excuse because of his injury but Dirk and Parsons were horrible on the offensive end of the court. Dirk did rebound but he had butter on his hands at times. JJ rescued the Mavs tonight. Aminu was off tonight but his energy most nights has been a welcome sight. Don't see this team doing much come playoff time.

I swear, I've never read so much whining in my life.

Dirk, although percentage wise didn't shoot well, still ended up with 15 pts and 14 boards.

Tyson didn't play a minute, Rondo can't even dress, Parsons disappeared (again) and Monte should have joined Tyson, yet the Mavs win.

Granted, it wasn't a stellar performance. But a win is still a win, and when you play short-handed, play poorly at that, and still come out the victor, count the blessing and quit making it sound like they were playing against TCU for heavens sake.

It should be noted the Jazz have beaten Cleveland, the Spurs, Memphis, OKC and Golden State this season already.

Agree. Let's not totally dismiss that Utah has some good young talent on that team. All they need to do is put things together and they'll be a really good team some point soon. That said Dallas isn't good enough to just cruise on many nights. There's still holes on this team especially when you don't have Tyson and Rondo out there in addition to a gimpy Monta and 36 year old Dirk.

What you call "whining" I call intelligent observations. Maybe you're ok with their mediocre play. I'm not. A win is a win, fine. But Utah is terrible. Their piss poor record speaks for itself. If this game had been played at Utah, ok then, different story. Utah has always been a different animal at home. But this was a home game against one of the worst road teams in the NBA. Even without Chandler and Rondo, the Mavs should have clobbered them. But they played typical Mavs basketball, doing the bare minimum to win. 3 guys bothered to show up- Dirk, Barea, and Charlie V. The rest of the team took the night off. That is frustrating to watch. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but that's a common theme with this team. There are just far too many games where only 2-3 guys show up. They aren't deep enough to win like that against the good teams.

So yeah, when we see a bunch of guys contributing nothing, it frustrates us and you're gonna see some "whining" here.

Potatoes or Po-ta-toes I guess.

Honestly, I don't pay a ton of attention to the Mavs like I once did.

I'll accept the 2-3 guys showing up and the minimum effort you mention as hardcore fact.

But you're definitely selling a professional basketball team - albeit, not a great one - short. They've won at Miami, Cleveland, Detroit, and OKC this season.

Also, with the Mavs playing with a hurt Monte, and not suited up Rondo, and out for the game Chandler, then I'm cutting them some slack too.

But probably the key here is - as I already stated - I not an avid Mavs fan. So I'm just gonna butt out.

You must not have been paying attention to the Rangers board when RW was the manager. We had some good whining going on. Me included.

That was a lengthy line with RW at the helm. Gawd I'm happy he's gone.

And for the most part, I really didn't think of us as whining about him as much as just being totally frustrated with the nonsense which transpired so often.

Did I mention how thrilled I am he's no longer with us?

Dirk was made an All Star after Anothony Davis had to drop out. Good for him. He gets a bonus and one more thing to add to his legacy, but I don't really know if he deserved it this year. Least he's respected now.

I love Dirk, but I wish Monta would've gotten in even though they're different positions. Dirk has had the respect of his peers. Monta, not so much.

There have been a lot of replacements this year. Doesn't the the commissioner choose the replacements?
